Infrastructure Engineer

As a member of the Temecula Valley Hospital IS team, the SR Network Engineer is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing of the server, network, and telecom infrastructure and application components. This position performs a wide variety of evaluation, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the server infrastructure performance meets company and end user satisfaction, in addition to providing information and recommendations regarding Windows servers, both physical and virtual configurations and installations.  This position will require advanced technical proficiency with VMware vSphere and ESX Host Environments, as well as VDI environments.  The candidate must also possess advanced experience with Cisco Cores, Blade Switches, and Firewall/Security Components. 

Essential Job Duties:

Build and maintain all critical IT infrastructure including physical and virtual Windows servers, storage, switches, firewalls, and networking. 

Install, configure, and manage VMware vSphere, ESX Host Environments, Horizon View and the Horizon Suite of solutions. 

Analyze infrastructure to identify opportunities for improvement, make recommendations and lead implementations that support best practices.

Serve as subject matter expert in collaborating with IS team, facility directors, and other TVH stakeholders to gather requirements and implement systems to meet business and technical objectives, SLAs, availability needs, and capacity requirements including high availability, farms/clusters, and disaster recovery.

Responsible for managing and overseeing all backups of infrastructure, including servers, SANS, and appliance configurations.

Creates and maintains system procedural and technical documentation.

Takes routine call within department rotation.

Other duties as assigned.  

Job Requirements

Strong Fibre Channel SAN experience, specifically administration, capacity management, thin disks, snapshots and replication.

Firewall management experience; managing ACLs, NATs, and VPNs (IPSEC).

Solid networking skills to include routing, switching, VLANs, IP subnetting, etc.

Minimum five years’ experience with Cisco products working in a data center environment, including racking and cable management, power calculations, etc.

Configuring and managing monitoring/logging to include SNMP, NetFlow, vSphere alerting, syslog, etc.

Intermediate-level experience in a Windows environment; specifically Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and PKI.

Minimum five years’ experience with VMware vSphere, and Horizon Suite of Applications.

Experience with Microsoft SQL in a virtual and clustered environment preferred.

Avaya Telecomm, VoIP experience preferred.

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Associates’ Degree preferred.


VMware professional certification: VCP, VCAP, VCDX etc., preferred.

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Professional (CCNP) preferred.

Microsoft MCSE or MCP certification preferred.

Communication Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write documents for distribution that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, employees, and other key stakeholders.

Ability to create/update technical documentation, both written and verbal

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Additional Skills:

Ability to work flexible hours as business needs require

Ability to serve as tier-two on-call support within the department

Strong Project Management skills preferred
