Airport Assistant General Manager

General Description and Classification Standards
Reporting to the General Manager or Deputy General Manager, directs multiple assigned major airport functions, such as overall administration and business, airport finance, and internal and external financial reporting, etc. Position is responsible for both strategic planning and day-to-day direction of assigned areas; allocates budgeted resources as needed; establishes processes and procedures; plays a significant role in developing airport policy and airport strategic plans.
This is a fully seasoned senior leadership position in the Airport structure charged with responsibility for directing multiple specialized functions and a large organization within the airport through multiple director or manager level positions.
Supervision Received
Direction received is very general and focuses more on long-term and short-term operating objectives.
This is a policy-advisory level of management and would be considered senior leadership.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Directs assigned functions at the Airport through subordinate directors and managers.
Prepares strategic plans and reviews detailed policies and procedures. Reviews budgets submitted by subordinates and collaborates on priorities. Consolidates operating plans and budgets for review by GM, the Mayor's Office, and City Council, and prepares legislation for capital funding needs on a recurring basis.
Selects, manages, and develops leadership talent for units managed. Provides guidance and coaching on an ongoing basis. Plans for the future leadership needs of the group and develops potential future leaders and candidates for higher-level positions. Provides both formal and informal feedback to subordinate staff.
Essential duties include the following:
Assures that all activities are carried out with high level of attention to accuracy and timeliness.
Establishes good working relationships with all Airport leadership, regulatory representatives, airline and concession management, local governments and any other pertinent organizations with respect to the areas assigned.
Serves as a member of the senior management team and provides significant input into overall strategic, business, and financial plans.
Decision Making
Position makes decisions regarding resource allocation among units management regarding daily operating policies and processes. Position has significant input to overall Airport strategic plan, capital budget and funding, and Airport initiatives.
Leadership Provided
Position has directional authority over a group of seasoned managers and provides high level coaching and development for direct subordinates and high potential employees.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. It is not an exhaustive list.
Extensive knowledge of all applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards and regulations governing airport finances; knowledge of aviation terms and industry practices.
Strong analytical, and presentation skills and a strong understanding of airport industry; financial management and cost controls of major airport capital program; strong personnel management skills; exceptional skills in communicating and listening to effectively convey information verbally and in writing.
Ability to organize and direct programs and resources involved in the capital development of airports; coordinate programs, communications, information and personnel to assure airport compliance with established requirements and meet City airport needs; supervise, train and evaluate the performance and professional development of assigned personnel; collaborate with others in the research, development and implementation of revenue-generating airport programs, projects and functions; effectively work, make decisions and communicate under a variety of emergency conditions. Effective knowledge of Oracle (or other major ERP platform) and project costing/management environment.
Minimum Qualifications - Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in business/public administration, aviation management, or a related area.
Minimum of ten years of management experience in multiple areas of airport management or related
Preferred Qualifications – Education and ExperienceMinimum of ten years of management experience in finance and/or accounting discipline
Minimum of five years in managing the financial elements of a major airport capital development program
Licensures and Certifications
Licensed CPA is strongly preferred, but experience in capital program development will be a mitigating factor
