Jacobs has a great opportunity for a traffic engineer in our New York, NY office with interest and skills in traffic operations, transportation planning, and traffic design including traffic signal design, signing design and pavement marking design, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) and traffic operations and safety analysis.
The candidate will perform traffic engineering assignments such as traffic operational analysis, traffic microsimulation models, roadway design, drafting signal, signing and marking, and/or construction traffic control plans, etc. Applicant will be expected to work closely with other members of the team and be flexible in meeting changing project needs. Our office provides support for other Jacobs offices and regions, so there is potential opportunity for short-term travel and work on major, exciting projects across the USA and internationally.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
•Responsible for performing transportation/traffic engineering, planning, and design
•Performs traffic analysis tasks from data collection, reporting analysis results and writing technical reports.
•Researches transit, traffic analysis, traffic operations, ITS and safety issues and works with City, State, County, and Regional Authority officials.
•Researches design options and documents findings for Project Engineers and/or Project Managers.
•Assists with duties assigned by Project Engineers and/or Project Managers.
•Provides technical direction and mentoring to less experienced design, planning, and engineering personnel.
•Coordinates project assignments with those of other engineers and technicians.
•Maintains effective communication with project team members and with clients
•May attend kick-off and design review meetings, and interacts with clients as their level of experience progresses
#BIA•Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering is required. •Traffic/transportation specialization preferred. Graduate degree (Masters or Ph.D.) with traffic/transportation specialization preferred.•EIT certification required, or has the ability to take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam within six months of hire. Professional Engineering (PE) registration desirable.•Must have at least 5 years of traffic engineering experience. A Masters degree in Traffic/Transportation/Civil engineering will be considered as a substitute for one (1) year of experience, while a doctoral in Traffic/Transportation/Civil Engineering will be considered as a substitute for two (2) years of experience.•Demonstrated experience with Traffic analysis software (Aimsun, Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, CORSIM, HCS, etc.) is preferred. Ability to enhance current software skills is required.•Experience with design software (i.e., AutoCAD, MicroStation, InRoads etc.) and its application in roadway, highway, intersection and interchange design is preferred
