Job Description

Manager, Government and External Relations

Company: Hitachi Ltd.

Location: Washington, DC office

Status: Regular, Full-Time


Hitachi Ltd. is looking for an experienced government relations professional to help lead external activities/engagements, be part of project teams, and participate in the development and delivery of public affairs strategies.


  • Research and monitoring key political/legislative activities and regulations for Hitachi’s business, under supervision of General Manager
  • Organizing various events to better promote Hitachi’s presence in the US 
  • Communicating and partnering with various institutions and think tanks in Washington DC for their better understanding of Hitachi activities
  • Leads response and resolution of highly escalated federal and state level issues related to Hitachi’s programs/projects
  • Oversees the development of communication materials and content (e.g. fact sheets, talking points, presentations, FAQs), and coordinates external collateral communication material with Corporate Communications.

Job Requirements

  • 5-10 year of experience in public policy or government relations for a private company
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills enabling this person to be persuasive and communicate efficiently and effectively with a diverse group of government officials, Hitachi group members and others.
  • In-depth understanding of local government operations, policy and protocol
  • Good understanding of global geo-political perspectives
  • Must demonstrate effective results delivery, team work, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Business, or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to travel on business trips within the US to meet internal and external stakeholders several times a year.
