The Mental Health Clinician provides direct clinical care to medical trainees. Additionally, this role supports programming and outreach, as well as advances the delivery of mental health services across IU School of Medicine.
This is an ideal role for an experienced master’s or doctoral-level clinician, who thrives on and is rewarded by direct clinical work with patients. The individual in this position will deliver quality clinical care approximately 75-85% of their time, allowing opportunities for supporting programming and outreach.
Responsibilities of this role include:
•Perform diagnostic assessments; provide insight-oriented and cognitive-behavior based therapy.
•Triage referrals; provide crisis management and stabilization; support planning/expansion of crisis management services.
•Communicate with referral sources within the IU system (i.e., program directors, lead advisors, faculty).
•Design and deliver psycho-educational programming and community outreach services.
•Collaborate with members of the mental health services team, and across the School and university, to facilitate quality patient care.
•Complete scheduling of patients and documentation of clinical work in a timely and complete manner.
•Participate in the assessment and development of improvements to the delivery of mental health services and programming provided to medical trainees across the IUSM system.
•Facilitate treatment planning including referrals to providers outside of the IU system for outpatient and inpatient care as needed; coordinate post-hospitalization care and follow-up.
•Administrative and special project work (i.e., content development for website and communications efforts in partnership with Office of Strategic Communications).
REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology or related field, plus 3 years of experience including supervised clinical work, providing psychotherapy, assessing risk and creating treatment plans, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, crisis management, and addictions evaluations and treatment. Current licensure or license eligibility in the State of Indiana as an HSPP, LCSW, or LMHC.
Combinations of related education and experience may be considered (for example, candidates with a PsyD or PhD in Psychology).
5 years of experience, knowledge of and experience within mental health systems in the State of Indiana, experience with the young adult population, experience delivering teletherapy, knowledge of and competency with mindfulness meditation and relaxation techniques, experience in higher education, experience with an electronic medical record.
