Since 1997, Midwest Center for Youth and Families has offered specialized residential treatment for children and adolescents with complex mental illness such as bipolar, disorder, depression, severe ADHD,  suicidal and self-harming issues as well as the long term effects of low self-esteem.  The severity of these disorders vary.  At some point when the disorder becomes to much to bear on the child and the family, residential treatment is needed to address the issues in a safe, compassionate environment.  Midwest Center for Youth and Families and South Shore Academy has effectively treated over 1400 children and adolescents.  We give families new tools and techniques through the use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.  Our parents love using DBT to address complex issues because it gives them concrete tools to use everyday in every situation they face when their children are angry, sad and fearful.

We have two state-licensed, Joint Commission-accredited facilities in Kouts and Valparaiso, Indiana.  The Joint Commission accreditation is limited to top organizations delivering high levels of patient service, reducing patient risk, and creating an environment for continuous improvement.

In 2005, we were the first residential treatment provider to begin using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in a residential setting.  We were the first to offer a DBT immersion program whereby the resident is spending their entire day learning, practicing and enjoying the DBT skill set.  We know, and our parents have told us that “DBT Changes Lives.”

We understand challenges parents face when caring for a child with a complex mental illness.  Please call us today so we can discuss your child’s needs and explore what we can do to help.
