The firm designs, certifies, and manufactures integrated propulsion systems, nacelles and thrust reversers for business jets; builds composite aircraft structures, interior shells, custom cabinetry and radomes; and manufactures aircraft transparencies, such as cabin windows, wing-tip lens assemblies, and flight deck windows. Our client also is a major third-party provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services to the military, commercial airline and air freight markets.
Commodity Manager:
The Commodity Manager applies expert and specialized knowledge in developing commodity strategies and programs for procuring goods and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts and supplies for aerospace manufacturing operations. This individual develops and provides leadership to institutionalize the processes of Continuous Improvement in accordance with organization goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:
- Develops commodity strategies across business units, coordinates procurement projects to improve cost control and functions as a project leader providing technical leadership requiring ingenuity and innovation.
- Develops, plans studies and collects data to determine cost saving options for parts and material. Analyzes data obtained. Develops and delivers reports for cost savings as a result of studies and projects of commodity activity and negotiations.
- Negotiates complex long-term agreements with supplier partners in cooperation with the company’s Legal team. May purchase parts and material of high value requiring a high level of technical knowledge of the aircraft system or subsystems for which it will be used. May review requisitions and confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
- Frequently acts as program manager for execution of plans that require multiple sources of business input from various company business groups and require coordination across multiple procurement teams.
- Develops and generates make/buy decisions based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal costs and capabilities for core and non-core items.
- Considers additional methods through contracts to assist the organization to manage inventory (i.e. KAN BAN, Consignment Stock, Vendor Managed Inventory, etc.) Reviews bid proposals and negotiates contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority. Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
- Engages in supplier development activities where appropriate and necessary based on the commodity group. Develops supplier corrective actions for chronic performance issues. Works in cooperation with Engineering and Quality where appropriate.
- Employs Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma skills to improve processes and material flow.
Experience:
- Bachelor level degree in business or a related discipline from a four-year college or university and 10+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to directly supervise a small staff of one (1) to three (3) professionals and/or clerical support staff as needed related to specific Projects.
- Ability to indirectly supervise from 50 to 100 managers, supervisors, Leads, and other personnel as part of Program Management. (Program’s value between 50 and 100 Million)
- Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms.
- Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups.
- Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
