Full Time Principal Investigator - West Virginia- AllStar Ecology - $25 - $45/hr

AllStar Ecology (ASE), a multi-disciplinary ecological consulting and contracting firm, is seeking a Principal Investigator to work out of its headquarters in Fairmont, WV and expand our cultural resource services. The chosen applicant will work with a team of accomplished archaeologists, biologists, and ecologists on a variety of projects in the Mid-Atlantic Region. Responsibilities:

  1. Archaeological and architectural fieldwork and report preparation.
  2. Coordinate with other staff to ensure the quality of data, fieldwork, and paperwork.
  3. Take on projects shortly after hire, with minimal oversight and review by our lead archaeologist and lead project manager.

Wage: $25 - $45 Full Time

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Master’s Degree in archaeology (or closely related field).
  2. Supervisory experience of 2-5+ years (minimum one year prehistoric and one year historic-period).
  3. Current Register of Professional Archaeologists affiliation (or qualified for RPA status).
  4. Successful preparation and submission of full technical reports and all associated maps and forms to SHPOs (West Virginia, Ohio, or nearby strongly preferred).
  5. High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  6. Strong working knowledge and professional experience with Section 106, USACE permitting including Appendix C, and the NRHP criteria.
  7. Strong working knowledge and professional experience with artifact analysis and cataloging (prehistoric and historic-period).
  8. Working knowledge and professional experience with historical architecture and cemeteries.
  9. Working knowledge and professional experience interpreting soils and geomorphology (especially fluvial).
  10. Working knowledge of permitting concerns, aboveground components, and client SOPs for natural gas and other energy development projects.
  11. Ability to work 10+ hour days of physically demanding work under varying weather (hiking, carrying loads up to 50 pounds, excavation, deep augers) (estimate less than 30% of work days).
  12. Ability to work for periods of out-of-town travel (estimate less than 10% of work days).
  13. Ability to complete projects both independently or closely with a co-investigator.
  14. Strong experience working directly with clients, environmental scientists, and agencies during project planning, changes to the scope-of-work, and negotiation for adverse effects.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Principal Investigator experience of 2+ years.
  2. Professionally qualified as an architectural historian, geomorphologist, or other specialized field.
  3. High proficiency in ArcGIS.
  4. Proficiency with Trimble or equivalent submeter GPS and associated software.
  5. Working knowledge and experience with NEPA, FERC, DOD, FHWA.
  6. Strong fieldwork experience in West Virginia and Ohio.
  7. Professional experience with artifact preservation and curation.
