Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Director of Quality Assurance to manage our plant's Quality Control and Quality Assurance programs, ensuring compliance with company, customer, and government procedures. The successful candidate will lead inspections and audits across all phases of quality performance, including raw materials, production, packaging, distribution, HACCP, and GMPs. This is a fast-paced environment that requires strong leadership skills to build a cohesive department while supporting existing programs and creating new ones.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate vertically and horizontally with cross-functional teams to improve our Quality and Food Safety Systems by developing and updating processes and systems.
  • Lead periodic sanitation audits against the consistent application and execution of procedures and all related sanitation practices.
  • Develop, train, and assess the performance of food safety staff.
  • Accountable for the food safety, quality assurance plans, and food processing compliance programs in all company-owned locations that handle company products.
  • Troubleshoot and investigate food safety issues and interact with all customer representatives.
  • Responsible for government, regulatory, and customer audit administration.
  • Responsible for documentation verification, review, and filing.
  • Carry out QC policies, procedures, and directives in the development of and compliance with company, customer, and government expectations while providing feedback and required follow-up to ensure proper corrective action.
  • Perform customer audits and annual SQF audits.
  • Develop and maintain HACCP plan and train plant personnel on quality programs.
  • Communicate to USDA regarding preoperational or operational inspections.
  • Develop and maintain quality control systems/programs such as Pest Control, Self-Inspection, Supplier Management, Safety, Microbio Testing, and Defense.
  • Conduct pre-shipment review, CCPs, validation studies, report on deficiencies for GMPs, HACCP, and SSOPs.
  • Perform microbiological tests on finished products, environmental and direct food contact surfaces.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand for 8-10 hours per day; free use of hands and free range of arm movement; ability to bend repeatedly at the waist for 8-10 hours per day; ability to safely walk to and in the plant; ability to properly wear personal protective equipment, sanitary equipment, and any other equipment necessary for certain departments.

Skills and Knowledge:
  • 10+ years of experience within the food industry.
  • Strong attention to detail and data-driven mindset.
  • Proven success building and leading food safety & quality programs.
  • Experience and working knowledge of FDA regulations and FSMA.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Certified in PCQI, HACCP, and Food Defense.
  • Independent, self-motivated individual with experience leading a team.
  • Comfortable communicating clearly to cross-functional teams and internal and external stakeholders.
  • RTE Experience (REQUIRED)
