Position - Union: System Protection & Control (SP&C) Tech Trainee ( Plattsburgh , NY)

Number of Positions: 1

Location: NYSEG-NY- Plattsburgh

Responsibilities

SP&C will assist in maintenance and troubleshooting of protection and control equipment in high voltage substations, hydroelectric, and gas stations. Work includes protective relay testing, function tests of protection and control circuits and commissioning tests in transmission and distribution electrical power systems. Perform work on microprocessor relays, PLCs, SCADA systems, automation equipment, DFRs, SERs, and other complex power system equipment under direct supervision. Requires becoming proficient in reading various electrical diagrams and providing feedback to engineering on design recommendations. Job involves wiring of control circuits in switchboards and panels. Under close supervision will begin qualification for high voltage switching and tagging.

Skills and Requirements

Minimum A.A.S. degree in Electrical Engineering Technology required prefer Bachelors in Electrical Engineering Technology.

Good understanding of electrical power systems, communication and networking.

Must become thoroughly familiar with this Company's Electrical and Mechanical Tagging Rules.

Must become familiar with Company's Safety Rules, approved methods of resuscitation and be able to render practical First Aid.

Must be able to qualify for appropriate operators' licenses.

Qualifications

Physical Qualifications:

Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.

Personal Qualifications:

Should possess temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision and patience are particularly essential.

Must be especially neat and orderly in work.

Must have established reputation for being trustworthy when in possession of confidential information.

Must be willing to work extra and/or irregular hours as required.

Must be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents and when working on or near live conductors, structures and equipment must proceed with the most diligent caution.

Avangrid employees may be assigned a system emergency role and in the event of a system emergency, may be required to work outside of their regular schedule/job duties. This is applicable to employees that will work in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York within AVANGRD Network and Corporate functions. This does not include those that will work for Avangrid Renewables
