Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is currently seeking a Solar Fleet Electrical Engineer who can apply diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to a broad variety of assignments and fields related to solar power generation. This candidate will need to make decisions independently regarding engineering issues and processes. This position requires supervision only related to high level objective and critical issues.

Areas of responsibility will mainly focus on solar power electronics and electrical systems support and analysis, including but not limited to:

  • Managing a fleet of string and central inverter technology issues from a specific manufacturer
  • Working with inverter software and analyzing fault data
  • Assisting the operations team with general electrical or power plant troubleshooting
  • Conducting root-cause analysis (RCA) for critical or persistent issues at solar sites
  • Acting as the single point of contact for a specific inverter manufacturer to provide support to the operations team
  • Troubleshooting solar field issues such as tracker or PV string failures
  • Creating reliability failure rate curves for component level failures to develop a spare parts strategy

Preferred qualifications are:

  • Bachelors or higher in Electrical Engineering, Masters preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience working in solar or energy storage
  • Experience conducting RCAs and working with vendors
  • Reviewing and creating Arc Flash studies in ETAP or SKM
  • NERC Standard Validation, including MOD-026/027, MOD-032, PRC-004, PRC-019 and PRC-025
  • Problem Solving and Project Management skills a must.

• Acts as technical liaison to individuals within and outside the organization with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters pertaining to individual's field

• Completes assignments given in broad terms concerning general objectives and limitations

• Performs other job-related duties as assigned
