Research Engineer II

Encore Wire Corp McKinney, TX (On Site) Full-Time

Position Overview


Under general supervision, applies functional specifications and uses engineering tools to complete projects relating to product changes, new development, and testing solutions. Independently processes data, writes engineering reports, and conducts diagnosis of routine testing and manufacturing malfunctions. Develops relationships through excellent communication skills and acts as a key resource to provide innovative solutions. At this level, assignments are generally well defined with clear and specified objectives. May participate in professional societies in area of specialization.



Essential Job Functions


  • Operate in a laboratory environment that maintains ISO 17025 compliance for UL DAP accreditation
  • Contribute in reliability analysis such as risk assessments and Failure Mode Effects Analysis by compiling and examining data
  • Assist in developing new testing methods as necessary to maintain UL code and QA/AC compliance
  • Identify materials for new Wire and Cable Products, and contribute to in-house/UL approval testing
  • Maintain and modify existing equipment, and acquire new equipment as necessary
  • Helps to develop new processes and more efficient production methods through new product development, testing and prototyping
  • Coordinate with R&D team to effectively manage projects with intradepartmental teams
  • Code and test programming for in-house software programs and projects
  • Contribute to Encore’s Intellectual Property portfolio by preparing Invention Disclosures and recognizing ideas that have Intellectual Property potential without disclosing confidential information
  • Actively seek new R&D project ideas through continued interaction with manufacturing
  • Coordinate with department leads to produce project deliverables by assessing input requirements and providing functional solutions



Requirements


  • Bachelors or Associates Degree from an accredited college or university engineering or acceptable technical program. Candidates holding degrees in non-science related disciplines with substantial experiences in machine design, fabrication, manufacturing and project management may also be considered.
  • 5 years of experience in product compliance testing, laboratory facilities, manufacturing processes, product engineering and design, and electrical componentry
  • Metallurgy, plastics and extrusion experience
  • Experience in modeling (SolidWorks preferred), detailed engineering drawing creation, simulation, design and testing
  • Electronics and/or computer science experience
  • Proficient application of design mechanics, mathematics, statistical analysis and design of experiments
  • Knowledge of industry specific regulatory standards (ASTM, ISO, UL, RoHS, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Project management software, Microsoft Office Suite and standard commercial software
  • Strong communication, leadership, teamwork, adaptability, problem solving and critical observation skills
  • Demonstrated experience with environmental sciences best practices, familiarity with LEED initiatives, a basic ability to interpret OSHA regulations and overall environmental impact awareness of a laboratory facility
  • Strong working knowledge with C++, Ladder Logic, Function Block, Structured Text Code
  • Fluent in English
