Residential Solar Operations & Asset Manager

Work Location: (remote), West Region

The Residential Solar Operations & Asset Manager will manage the residential fleet of solar projects in California and Arizona to ensure optimal operations of the company’s residential solar photovoltaic (PV) & thermal plant portfolio. Overall responsibilities will include management of third-party O&M service provider, review and approve remediation efforts, review of customer performance guarantee, relationship management of key stakeholders (i.e. solar system lessees, lease servicer(s), local government and permitting agencies etc.), performance analysis and reporting, preparation of OpEx and CapEx budgets and collaborating cross functionally with other internal stakeholders (i.e. FP&A, Accounting, Tax, Legal, HSSE, Development, Procurement etc.) including with Legal on the resolution of customer disputes

Responsibilities

  • Manage O&M service provider to ensure residential assets meet or exceed contractually required performance targets; monitor residential assets, identify underperformance and monitoring issues, work with O&M service provider(s) to identify and execute remediation

  • Review Non-Covered Service Requests from O&M service provider under the O&M agreement

  • Review and ensure accurate calculation of Performance Guarantees associated with lessees’ Performance Guarantee, and communicate credit calculations to lease servicer(s)

  • Review customer requests that come in via the lease servicer(s) and O&M service provider

  • Assist Legal team in management of customer claims and disputes as they arise

  • Optimize value of residential fleet through the analysis of system deficiencies and identifying opportunities for improved performance

  • Create detailed, comprehensive reports on residential projects as needed

  • Review fleet performance reports and project specific performance data; Investigate issues and initiate actions to improve performance

  • Develop & implement new processes to close gaps and increase efficiency within the day-to-day operations of the residential portfolio

  • Manage and organize material project data associated with residential leased assets, including but not limited to Lease Agreement, and Permits; facilitate agreement amendments, assignments/transfers and terminations as needed

  • Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including but not limited to Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Accounting, Tax, Legal, HSSE, Development, Procurement and Risk & Insurance

  • Co-ordinate with the FP&A & Billings teams on management and optimization of Lease Servicer agreements

  • Work with billing team to develop and implement a collections procedure and policy

  • Ensure regulatory, interconnection and HSSE compliance; Ensure assets are operated and managed consistent with Brookfield’s Policies

  • Support financing, M&A, and development initiatives as needed

  • Assist FP&A in preparing investor reports, budgets for investors and lenders and resolve any issues or questions

  • Review, track and approve operating expenses incurred by assets

  • Maintain appropriate records of project documents and modifications, and customer dispute correspondence

  • Provide timely work products to support management and reporting of operating assets

  • Collaborate with FP&A and Accounting to ensure accuracy of billing to customers and resolve issues if needed

  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures to ensure all procedural, legislative and contract requirements are fulfilled

  • Participate in the development of an asset compliance calendar. Where specified, manage and monitor compliance in all contracts and activities

  • Maintain knowledge of the political and energy market trends within the regions; maintain or establish good working relationship with equipment manufacturers and other key industry players


Requirements

  • Working knowledge of US renewable energy and storage markets

  • Demonstrated commitment and participation in developing an accident-free work environment

  • Strong analytical skills and preferable experience in budget preparation and management

  • Technical understanding of solar generation and energy storage; Familiarity with computerized DAS/SCADA/Monitoring systems, interconnection agreements and data management

  • In field / hands on experience in solar construction and operations is strongly preferred

  • Strong business acumen and commercial and financial mindset

  • Proven ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team

  • Ability to understand financial models and the potential impact of operations on investments

  • Ability to define issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and develop sound solutions

  • Exceptional influence and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, peers, partners and other stakeholders


Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience in solar asset management

  • Degree in engineering or any other technical field. Additional education in finance or accounting preferred

  • Technology savvy, advanced computer skills especially in MS Office Suite

  • Proven experience in contract management

  • Proven experience in negotiation

  • Energy asset management experience in distributed generation solar PV in North America, experience in residential solar is a plus
