Position Summary:

Work as an integrated member of the Patient Care Services Leadership team, sharing administrative responsibility and authority for Patient Care Services programs. Responsible for the operations of the Diagnostic Services components of Patient Care Services and ensures its coordination with other components.

Scope of Authority
The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible and accountable for the operations of Imaging, Laboratory and Respiratory Therapy Services. The Director of Diagnostic Services supervises the daily operations of these three programs.

Department/Program Development
The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible for the systematic development, alignment and deployment of goals, objectives, initiatives and action plans for department and programs. The Director is also responsible for ensuring that the goals, objectives, initiative and action plans are aligned with the corporate strategic plan, and aligned with other department and programs within the Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation.

The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible for the completion and maintenance of annual operating and capital budgets for Imaging, Laboratory and Respiratory Therapy Services including projecting volume, revenue and expenses.

The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible and accountable for deployment and compliance with corporate policies and procedures, applicable local, state and federal regulations, grant/funding conditions and accrediting bodies, including The Joint Commission.

Performance Improvement
Ensures departments and programs under supervision actively participate in Performance Improvement activities as described in Corporate Performance Improvement Plan including,
• Planning, including design of processes, selection of measures, and deployment of requirements,
• Execution of plans,
• Assessment of progress and capturing of new knowledge,
• Revision of plans based on assessment findings, learning, new inputs and new requirements.

Human Resource Management
The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible for ensuring that employees under his/her supervision are competent to complete job duties by development of systematic selection requirements, and systematic evaluation of employee performance and competence, including customer contact requirements, customer satisfaction and ability to work with others.

The Director of Diagnostic Services is responsible for systematic development and deployment of outcome measures, process measure and financial measures.

May represents Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation in regional and statewide committees and task forces.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field. Master’s degree in a health care related field preferred.
  • Must have completed a program of education conducive to the management of very high functioning healthcare departments.
  • Progressive successful management experience may be considered in lieu of University Degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive Healthcare management experience with three years of clinical healthcare experience preferred.
  • Current clinical licensure in the State of Alaska (as applicable).
  • The successful candidate will be required to pass and maintain competencies for this position.
  • Office machines (i.e., multi-line telephone, copy machine, fax machine, etc.)
  • Requires knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency agency standards related to health care organizations.
  • Cognitive and technical knowledge required with the ability to manage care across the continuum of care.
  • Knowledge of budgets, reimbursements, coding, claims processing and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Theoretical knowledge of advanced access principals, and triple aim concepts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Direct supervision of Diagnostic Services Managers who have Technicians Clerical and other Diagnostic Services staff reporting to them.
  • Will work closely with Administrators to ensure quality improvement and quality of care in all Diagnostic Services Service areas.
