Job Description Journeyman Level Human Factors Engineer Overview: The GBS Group, an engineering services and consulting firm in Virginia Beach, VA, has an opening for a Journeyman Level Human Factor Engineer. The GBS Group is a commercial and government engineering services firm with a variety of contract types. Our Headquarters is located within 10 miles of the Virginia Beach resort area and downtown Norfolk's Waterside District and includes a 24x7 Operational Support Center monitoring all client installations in North America as well as a world class lab with configurations of all client hardware and software systems. The work will be to provide engineering technical and management support in studying, analyzing, and evaluating engineering problems, and developing solutions in support of Coast Guard surface asset acquisitions and SFLC in-service surface asset sustainment efforts. This includes the development of contract documentation and assisting with the development of technical plans, specifications, cost estimates relating to the various categories of engineering support services, studies provided, and associated reports. Preparation of a wide range of engineering and feasibility studies, providing engineering and technical support for design review, performance feasibility studies, and designs of ships, boat, and shipboard systems in support of existing and future vessel acquisition programs. The location of the work for this project will be either a) Department of Homeland Security (DHS) St. Elizabeth's Campus USCG Douglas Munro Headquarters Building 2703 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE Washington, DC 20593 b) Surface Forces Logistics Center Engineering Services Division (SFLC-ESD) 707 Ordnance Road Glen Burnie, MD 21226 Responsibilities are included but not limited to: * Provide human factors engineering functions for detailed work, from concept phase to contract design. * Conduct research, development, design, testing, and modeling functions to build design standards and incorporate Human Systems Integration (HSI). * Work with stakeholders to identify areas in ship design that need improvement and increased consideration for HSI. * Conduct studies of ship systems and spaces to factor human interaction. * Incorporate recommendations into ship specifications and design. Qualifications - Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or higher in relevant field such as human factors engineering, behavioral science, industrial ergonomics, cognitive ergonomics, cognitive psychology, or engineering psychology. * Minimum of 3 years' experience applying Human Systems Integration (HSI) in a system design environment. * Minimum of 3 years' experience working on HSI issues in marine environment.
