Robert Half Finance is searching for an organized, efficient individual to join a Professional Services company in the role of Payroll Clerk. In this role, you will be required to support the Payroll department in a variety of duties, including data entry, reconciliation of timecards, paycheck distribution and providing statements to various departments. You should be able to successfully communicate with both the internal team and outside customers. This Payroll Clerk position is a career growing opportunity that gives you the chance to work with an industry leader. Located in the Portsmouth, Virginia area, this position is ideal for individuals seeking full-time employment. Key responsibilities - Ensure efficient operation of the department by performing clerical duties such as filing, scanning, faxing, photocopying, etc. - Complete other duties as assigned - Train and instruct employees in the proper use of payroll-related systems including entry of timesheets, online access of pay statements, etc. - Enter data into spreadsheets and the payroll system - Make reports easily accessible by administer/saving them as instructed - Maintain payroll information by contacting employees via email and phone to obtain timesheet approvals - Build and run custom reports -Ensure payroll compliance with all applicable payroll laws

Job Requirements

- 2+ years of previous payroll experience - Knowledge of FLSA and how it impacts payroll processing - Experience processing payroll for 500+ employees on a weekly or bi-weekly basis - Multi-state payroll knowledge is strongly desired - Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing - Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement - Payroll software experience preferred - Deep understanding of garnishments payroll - Multi-state payroll experience preferred - Payroll systems for 100-500 employees experience - Accounts payable experience desired - Enthusiasm when it comes to learning new systems and ideas - Highly organized, attentive, has a sense of urgency, flexible and able to deal with frequent interruptions and changing priorities - Excellent data entry skills
