Senior Tax Accountant

Andrews & Cole Rockville, MD (Onsite) Full-Time
Derived Salary: $83K - $130K/Year

Our client, a fast growing health services firm in Montgomery County, is looking for a Senior Tax Accountant. This role is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing tax returns in all applicable taxing jurisdictions including federal, states, and local. The Senior Tax Accountant assists the Tax Director with maintaining regulatory compliance and procedures to ensure taxes are filed and paid timely and accurately.

The candidate should have drive and a desire to learn while supporting the successful growth of the Organization. The Senior Tax Accountant will also manage and work with the external CPA firm and other teams in the finance department, such as revenue, expense, fixed assets, treasury, accounts payable, etc., as well as request and analyze financial records and reports, ensure tax payments, maintain the tax calendar, handle tax notices and audit requests, and respond to investors and partners.

With the company experiencing rapid growth, this position has potential opportunities to step up to higher level roles, such as independently leading projects and supervising staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Income Tax: basic knowledge of business entity types and concepts in partnership taxation. Assist the tax director analyzing financials, calculating tax adjustments, apportionment, and tax provisions. Able to work effectively to meet internal and external deadlines.
  • Property Tax: gather fixed assets data, maintain workpapers, and file tax returns. Ensure timely payment of property tax bills and provide budget analysis to the accounting team.
  • Business License Tax: gather data, maintain workpapers, file tax returns and make payments. Provide budget analysis to the accounting team.
  • Use Tax: responsible for gathering data, maintaining workpapers, filing tax returns, and making payments. Provides budget analysis to the accounting team.
  • Sales tax: potential filings for the new business branch
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate degree with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • CPA/MST is a plus.
  • Ability to read/interpret tax law, regulations, revenue procedures, case laws, and apply the principles to business transactions. Familiarity with CCH software and other tax research tools is required.
  • Must be familiar with GAAP and understand the major differences between GAAP and tax law. This position will need to be able to perform 2 or 3 scenario analyses, reconcile from audit to compliance, and learn to pin-point the core issue in complex transactions.
  • Willing to take initiative and exhaust all efforts before reaching out to other team members. Able to narrow down issues and paths from complexity.
  • Must be detail-oriented in reviewing work.
  • Able to prioritize and reasonably allocate time, self-manage and multi-task.
  • Play an active role in collaborating with people with a positive tone and in a respectful manner. Recognize other team members’ efforts and contributions. Work with teams to build a constructive environment.
  • Proficiency in Excel/Word is required.
  • Must be professional and clear and concise in both verbal and written communication.
