The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist, Plumbing, Journey 2/Lead for the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC), located in Seward, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:
* Install, maintain, and repair all facility plumbing at the Spring Creek Correctional Center in accordance with the Uniform Plumbing Code and local plumbing code
* Properly select and perform work at a professional level with steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, cast iron pipe and composting materials
* Provide assistance to other maintenance staff
* Perform other duties as assigned

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum security state operated adult correctional institution that has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff. While much of Spring Creek's inmate population serve long term sentences, we also house prisoners serving shorter sentences.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
* Possession of valid State of Alaska Journeyman Plumber Fitness Card.
* Ability to read blueprints, plans, schematics, specifications, and operate two-way radios.
* Knowledge of uniform building codes.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
* Valid Driver's License required for this position.

* Seward is home to the Mt. Marathon Race which is run every July 4th. The race totals 3.1miles and climbs 3022 feet. Top finishers cross the finish line in about an hour.
* Seward schools are second to none, with the Seward Elementary School being selected as a 2008 "No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School."
* The region offers fantastic marine boating, fishing and hunting, cross-country skiing, bird watching, hiking, kayaking, running and biking, and much, much more.

EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. The Department of Corrections follows and maintains federal and state requirements standards including, but not limited to, Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards which apply to all public and private institutions that house adult or juvenile offenders. PREA standards preclude the department from hiring or promoting anyone who has engaged in, or been convicted of any conduct which would violate PREA standards related to sexual assault including:
* Sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility, or other institution;
* Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or,
* Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.
CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware - this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
FINGERPRINT NOTICE
