IT Engineer - Oahu

Position Overview

The IT Engineer will oversee all aspects of the satellite teleport’s IT infrastructure, including network management, system administration, and user support. The role requires a proactive approach to cybersecurity, system maintenance, and disaster recovery planning. The IT Engineer will also play a critical role in supporting and training users on various IT systems and applications.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain the satellite teleport's IT network infrastructure, including servers, routers, switches, and other networking equipment.
• Ensure network performance, reliability, and security.
• Administer IT systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
• Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups.
• Provide support for IT software and hardware issues.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems related to IT systems and applications.
• Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures to protect IT systems and data.
• Monitor for security breaches and respond to security incidents promptly.
• Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery plans for IT systems.
• Ensure that backup procedures are effective, and data can be recovered quickly and accurately.
• Provide technical support and training to users on IT systems and applications.
• Assist users in resolving IT-related issues and improve their understanding of IT tools and systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve IT processes, tools, and procedures.
• Implement best practices to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IT operations.
• Work closely with other departments to resolve cross-functional IT issues.
• Support the integration of new systems and technologies with existing infrastructure.
• Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of IT systems, configurations, and procedures.
• Document troubleshooting steps and resolutions for future reference.
• Lead and participate in IT projects, ensuring timely and successful implementation.
• Coordinate with vendors and service providers as needed for project execution and support.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements related to IT systems and data management.
• Conduct regular audits to verify compliance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in IT.
• Recommend and implement new technologies that can enhance the teleport's IT capabilities.

Requirements:

Education and Certifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or similar are preferred.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT network management, system administration, or a similar role.
• Proven experience in managing IT infrastructure and services.
• Experience with satellite teleport or similar telecommunications environments is a plus.

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in network and system administration, including experience with servers, routers, switches, and other networking equipment.
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery planning and implementation.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
• Knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations, including cloud services, virtualization, and storage systems.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.

Other Requirements:

• Must be willing to work on-site at the satellite teleport.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
