Cleaning the Blender
Before cleaning, the blender must be in the operator safety lockout mode.
Clean the blades (Remove when necessary).
Clean the bowl.
Clean the chute.
Clean the ventilation cover on the top of the chute.
Clean the outside of blender and the platform area.
The blender must be clean enough visually so that there is no previous pellets or pigments in the blender that could contaminate the next job.
For extreme color changes, add 250-pounds of styrene and a 50-pound bag of Val-white or calcium carbonate and blend thoroughly to scrub the blender. Empty the purge material into drums identified with 'Do Not Use Non-Hazardous Material labels for use again; pull the blades and clean.
Extreme color changes would be blending a Dark Green and your next blend is a Bright Yellow; or blending a Bright Red and your next blend is a White. It is extremely important that special precautions are taken to prevent contamination when these color schemes occur. Blades on the blender and/or hobart must be pulled and cleaned prior to next blend. Once the blender has been properly cleaned, your supervisor must make a final inspection using a clean rag and wiping on the inside, lid and chute on the blender to ensure there is no residual pigment on the equipment before blending the next job.
