Our Life & Safety Product Technology group is currently hiring a remote Sr. Database Engineer our team. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, eager to learn new tools and product and who is flexible and has ability to work within an environment that is fast paced and can change quickly. 

Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Strong verbal skills, communicates technical content with both technical and non-technical co-workers, comfortable presenting problem statements and solutions to engineers, product owners and business leaders
  • Strong written skills, writes technical documents for software developers and database administrators
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Strong understanding of High Availability engineering using load balancing, clustering, and disaster recovery
  • Familiarity with Network Management/OSS systems and tools, e.g., HP Operations Manager 
  • Familiarity with Virtual Machine architectures, VMWare and Amazon Web Services
  • System Administration competency using both Windows and Linux systems
  • Basic scripting – Shell, powershell, perl, python
  • Knowledge/experience working with map and Geospatial (GIS) technologies
  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodology
  • Build and maintain database structures, ETL processes, stored procedures, audit reports, data extracts
  • Perform internal QA checks to insure high quality deliverables
  • Migrate applications and data throughout the development cycle; develop, test, stage, release to production
  • Database Specific Knowledge;
    • Required
      • RDBMS technology familiarity with Oracle 11/12,18,19, Oracle ASM/ACFS, Informix v12/v14, MySQL, PostgreSQL
      • Data modeling and schema design
      • Data security, availability, accessibility, persistence, recoverability, retention and archival
      • SQL (DDL, DCL, DML)
      • Procedural extensions (PL/SQL, Transact-SQL)
      • Data access methodologies
      • Performance/Query tuning
      • Backup/recovery strategies, technologies, methodologies     Preferred
        • Experience with Table Partitioning and Oracle RAC
        • Experience with Oracle Goldengate, Shareplex, Streams, Informix replication
        • Revision control, e.g., Subversion, GIT
        • Maven, Ibatis, JIRA
        • Ability to Identify appropriate technologies to meet the informational needs of the business
        • Implementation architecture and context, e.g., server, OS, storage and network components)
        • Business logic; multi-tier implementations


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or a related field required, however equivalent experience may be substituted for educational requirements 

Experience and Technical Skills 

  • 3+ years software engineering / development experience required in Java on Linux required 
  • Strong knowledge on network / database connectivity (Oracle and SQL in general) preferred 
  • Solid programming experience with Web services, VXML and multi-threading preferred 
  • Experience working on agile software development teams 

Other Skills: 

  • Experience on AWS and Twilio will be a plus 
  • Experience with callflow and SMS will be a plus

For candidates located in Colorado, the hiring range for this position is anticipated between $100,000 and $119,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
