Job Description

Infection Control is seeking a highly motivated and successful individual with a background in epidemiology and infectious disease

This employee will:

+ Collaborate with other members of the department of Infection Prevention and Control to decrease or eliminate healthcare associated infections in patients, staff and visitors.

+ Utilize an advanced knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, sterilization, sanitation and disinfection practices, modes of disease transmission and specific principles of infection control and prevention at the hospital.

+ Conduct investigations on potential outbreaks and trends in HAI events.

+ Collaborate with the microbiology lab on developing and implementing active surveillance programs for transmissible nosocomial pathogens.

+ Collaborate with Antimicrobial Stewardship Program on performance improvement and research initiatives to reduce HAI pathogens.

+ Collaborate with the medical informatics for IC programmatic needs.

+ Participate in the training of ID fellows and develop Infection Control curriculum for the ID fellowship program.

+ Contribute to the Institutional Biosafety Committee.

+ Co-chair the Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Committee.

+ Participate in regional and national infection control networks and groups.

+ Further departmental research activities and performance improvement initiatives.

+ The position also involves inpatient general ID consult service and ambulatory ID clinic half day per week.

Specific primary IC operational responsibilities include:

+ Oversee COVID-19 contact tracing jointly with the Associate Director, Infection Control (IC) and employee health contact tracing manager.

+ Serve as the IC liaison for the Sales Force Team (contact tracing software): oversee development and implementation of the tool for other transmissible pathogens beyond COVID-19.

+ Represent IC in the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and prepare protocol reviews as assigned by the IBC Chair.

+ Develop and execute the IC training curriculum for ID fellows in partnership with the ID fellowship Program Director.

+ Serves as IC liaison with the health informatics team to meet Infection Control Program needs.

+ Organizes and leads the monthly Infection Control- Microbiology meetings.

+ Partner with antimicrobial stewardship director to regularly monitor antibiotic usage trends as they apply to emergence of MDRO's, and initiate projects that are intended to improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance, and decreases the spread of infections

This role will report primarily to the Chief Medical Epidemiologist for all issues related to Infection Control and to the Infectious Disease Service Chief for issues related to ID consult service.

Education/experience required:

+ Must have an M.D. degree, or equivalent, from an approved Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) medical school.

+ Must have satisfactorily completed an internal medicine residency program, and an infectious diseases fellowship program, from an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited program.

+ Minimum of 2-3 years supervisory and/or leadership experience in a healthcare setting.

Certifications/licensures required:

+ Must be eligible for NYS medical licensure.

+ Must be board-certified in infectious disease.

+ Medical staff member in good standing.

+ Expectation of time commitment:

The position is expected to dedicate 50 % of their time to their Infection Control role.
