TDY Registered Dietitian Clinical Diabetes Educator (CDCES)

Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation Bethel, AK (Onsite) Full-Time

Position Summary:  This is a grant funded, TDY position.  Registered Dietitian Clinical Diabetes Educator is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive diabetes education and care for patients with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, and patients at high risk of developing diabetes in a clinic setting.  Education is provided via telephonic communication, video teleconferencing, and in-person education sessions.  This at times does require village travel. TDY Educator will be responsible for ordering labs for patients according to hospital policies.  TDY Educator will be responsible for documenting education in electronic health record.  This position will assist in the planning, coordinating and providing of diabetes-related health promotion activities in the YK Delta Region.  Patients and activities may involve multiple village trips per month.  TDY Educator will work closely with village clinic and hospital staff to promote diabetes standards of care and inform of new advances in diabetes care.  TDY Educator assists Diabetes Coordinator with maintenance of the Diabetes Registry and grant requirements.  TDY Educator works closely with the Diabetes Case Manager to ensure comprehensive care of clients.  TDY Educator participates in all program outreach activities such as monthly Diabetes Support Groups and radio shows, media campaigns, and special events.  TDY Educator participates in department planning and goal setting to achieve excellence in patient care and partnership with our tribal leaders.  TDY Educator believes in and promotes Napartet and all corporate endeavors.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree through an accredited university using course work approved by an accreditation council through the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum Experience: Two (2) years experience in a clinical health setting.  Demonstrated experience collaborating with a variety of disciplines for project completion.  Background in Diabetes Education required.

License, Certification, Registration: Valid Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist or BC-ADM credential in addition to: Valid RDN License in the State of Alaska.  Preferred Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Equipment/Tools: Work in a typical office, hospital, and village clinic setting.  Comprehensive knowledge of computer utilization and use of electronic health records.  Ability to operate diabetes care medical equipment such as glucometer, ht./weight scale, etc. Requires travel to villages via small plane/sub-arctic conditions, moderate lifting of equipment, occasional long working hours.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Strong knowledge base in the field of diabetes and public health.  Cross cultural communication skills essential.  Bi-lingual (Yup’ik/English) preferred.
