Patient Representative

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Fayetteville, AR Full-Time

This position is located in Fayetteville, Arkansas

The Patient Representative works under general supervision counseling patients on their financial status and obligation; and identifying and referring patients and/or responsible parties to an appropriate sponsoring agency. They are responsible for processing high risk pre-certifications, developing and implementing denial avoidance plans and producing reports on revenue cycle functions within the various departments to ensure appropriate financial error reports are worked and corrected. The patient representative is expected to demonstrate competency in the job elements of all the levels of the Access Coordinator positions.

Salary offered commensurate with experience.


  • Schedules, reschedules, and coordinates appointments using hospital software by performing visit notifications to patients, pre-registration of patients as needed.
  • Inputs and/or updates accurate patient information. 
  • Processes walk-ins, creates new patient charts, accesses systems for orders, works patient portal and maintains tracker board for multiple departments. 
  • Schedules surgeries and/or tests.
  • Issues school/work excuses, sends out no-show letters, takes patient photos for centricity.
  • Responsible for blocking schedules in PHS as appropriate.
  • Conducts insurance verification and benefit explanation by running eligibility on patients, performs ABN completion. 
  • Conducts authorizations and pre-certifications, tracks pre-authorizations and maintains referrals. 
  • Enters benefit and authorization information input PCT
  • Obtains OON waiver and coordinates completion of OON wavers.
  • Maintains initial plan of care (signatures, etc.), and is responsible for inputting daily and monthly statistics and communicates any medical record issues.
  • Responsible for various maintenance reports (i.e. bogies, work denials, open encounter, laser arc reports, cancelled clinic reports, etc.).
  • May perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED PLUS seven (7) years of training and/or experience in business office administration, customer service, or related work which includes three (3) years of experience is in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment OR Bachelor's Degree plus three (3) years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment.

Additional Responsibilities/Competencies:

  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills in order to successfully interact with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Well-developed decision-making skills required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed individual to establish plans of action.
  • Highly proficient at computer and keyboard skills (preferably Microsoft Office)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CHAA certification.
