Power Electronics Controls Engineer Position Summary:
Life Cycle Engineering is on the lookout for a dynamic and driven Power Electronics Controls Engineer to join our team in the vibrant city of Philadelphia, PA. As a Power Electronics Controls Engineer, you will be at the forefront of design, testing, troubleshooting, and project planning in the exhilarating realm of electrical controls engineering. Must be a US citizen and able to obtain/maintain DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Possess strong knowledge of power systems, dynamics, and real-time control software.
Act as the Navy's technical expert during ship construction, builder's trials, Post Shakedown Availability (PSA), and In-Service ship availabilities.
Provide support for system installation and testing of Integrated Power Systems (IPS) for Navy ship programs.
Offer onsite and remote troubleshooting and repair of Navy IPS hardware and software problems.
Provide engineering and technical support for complex systems, including problem definition, analysis, requirement updates, and implementation to meet technical requirements.
Offer assessments and recommendations for system development, improvements, optimization, or support efforts.
Assist in performing risk assessments and analysis using modeling and simulation techniques.
Prepare technical presentations, briefings, and papers for technical design reviews, technical review boards, and other relevant venues.
Review and update software requirements, design, implementation, testing, deployment, configuration management, information assurance, delivery, release, and troubleshooting support through the systems engineering process (SEP).
Contribute to maintenance and operation procedures.
Conduct design studies for new naval ship power electronics initiatives.
Participate in design reviews and failure review boards.
Acquire knowledge of power switches, system basis chips, gate drivers, and analog/digital sensing and controls, and apply them appropriately to meet project needs.
Provide technical analysis, participate in technical interchange meetings, collaborative engineering, and development of test and analysis tools.
Conduct assessments and make recommendations for design, testing, and documentation utilizing full knowledge of all phases of application, analysis, programming, and research analysis techniques.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering: Power Systems Technology, Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or a similar engineering degree with field/work experience focusing on Power, Power Systems, or Energy applications.
4+ years of engineering experience.
Knowledge of working with power distribution, 3-phase power systems, generation systems, AC/DC drives, and controllers
Experience working with controls & sensors
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience:
Experience with motor drives, medium voltage switchgear, protective relaying, cabling, and solid-state power conversion.
Experience working for or with the U.S. Navy.
Experience with Client electric power train equipment, Bogue, or DRS power electronics for naval applications.
Project management experience.
Industrial automation and controls experience
Knowledge of CMMI.
Physical Demands and Expectations
Regular physical activities such as walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, and prolonged sitting.
Ability to carry up to 30 lbs. and navigate a shipboard environment.
Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
