Engr 3, Product Development
Title: Product development Engineer III
Duration: 12 months (Possible Temp. to Perm.)
Location: Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417
Pay: $ 45 - 54/hr on w2
Key responsibilities will include:
* Work to understand customer needs through literature review, customer interviews, direct observation, competitive analysis, and/or prototype evaluation
* Translate customer needs into engineering requirements leading to specific packaging and process specifications
* Collaborate with Manufacturing and multi-functional teams (including Manufacturing Technology, Quality, Marketing, Regulatory, Operations) across MDS to propose, assess the feasibility of; and implement packaging design, material, or process changes, including creative solutions to business or technical needs
* Synthesize, develop, update and optimize designs that meet requirements by understanding design space with design options and tradeoffs, managing critical parameters, engage with strong engineering fundamentals and tools by integrating manufacturing principles early in development
* Implement DFSS throughout the design selection and development process, utilize and deploy empirical, statistical and analytical tools to improve decisions and reduce cycle times
* Assess manufacturability of new packaging designs, development of packaging processes, selection and justification of the appropriate capital equipment and changes to existing packaging designs and processes; Develop and execute packaging strategies for optimizing equipment usage and operational efficiency
* Comply with all local, state, federal and Client safety regulations, policies and procedures, allow with local Client quality policies, procedures, and practices through consistent application of sound safety quality principles
About you:
* Lead, coordinate and/or support packaging projects to ensure compliance to specification, timeline, and schedule
* Represent the R&D Packaging Function on multi-functional teams in order to drive Packaging strategy
* Demonstrate strong personal accountability for successful completion of designated tasks
* Effectively communicate and influence decisions among project teams as well as functional and business leadership reviews
* Proactively develop, maintain & share technical knowledge in specialized area(s), remaining up to date on current trends and company policies. Mentor junior members in the organization
Education and experience required:
* BS degree in Packaging or related engineering field is required. Master's degree, strongly preferred
* Minimum 5 years of Packaging experience is expected, and medical device industry experience is preferred
* Certified Packaging Professional through the Institute of Packaging Professionals is preferred
* Project management experience is preferred
* Knowledge of the following standards: ISO 13485, ISO 11607, and ISO 14971
* Knowledge and understanding of packaging test methods/standards and related test equipment pertaining to Medical Device Packaging
