Job Summary

This is a student employee position for the Department of Geography, Geology, and the Environment, located in Felmley Hall. Undergraduate Research Assistants are hired by faculty to assist in carrying out a particular research agenda.

As an undergraduate research assistant, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Research and collect material or data, library research, lab work, field work, or other project specific methodology.
  2. Self-motivation to complete tasks and make significant progress without direct supervision.
  3. Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. The ability to learn new software and research techniques.
  5. The ability to commit to complex projects.
  6. Reports on status of research activities to supervising faculty.
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Strong computer skills.
  9. Performs other related duties as required.


Pay Rate

$14.00/hour



Preferred Qualifications

Completed coursework in the department.

Work hours will be determined by the faculty member.

Illinois State University, as your employer, is required by federal law to ensure proper tax withholding from wages and to ensure that the required reporting of employee wages, withholding, and employment taxes is accurate. Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held.

International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work more when the university is not in session.
