We design and construct safe, attractive and environmentally sound public schools for children throughout the many communities of New York City. We are dedicated to building and modernizing schools in a responsible, cost-effective manner while achieving the highest standards of excellence in safety, quality and integrity. We have an excellent career opportunity for a Vice President, Architecture and Engineering who reports to the President & CEO and is responsible for the Authority's architectural and engineering design program which includes the construction of new school buildings as well as renovations to our existing building portfolio of roughly 1,400 buildings. A&E designs a yearly average of 14 new schools and 450 capital-improvement projects for existing schools. In addition, A&E provides design services during construction for approximately $2 billion in annual construction placement. The Vice President directly manages operations of the Department of Architecture and Engineering to ensure that all projects are designed to be of high quality, long lasting and cost effective. Serving as a member of the Executive Committee, the VP, A&E participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of policies, procedures and programs that impact various Authority divisions; regularly participates in meetings chaired by the President & CEO, as well as Trustee meetings where policy is discussed and developed. Responsibilities include: 1. Oversee the operation of the Department of Architecture and Engineering which totals over 250 team members, as well as numerous design firms and ensures departmental goals are met in a timely manner and within budget. 2. Plans, assigns, directs, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of the Senior Directors, Directors, and Managers of A&E Studios, and makes recommendations regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment, and discipline as well as participates in the development of human resources and collective bargaining strategies as they relate to architecture and engineering issues. 3. Manage and direct SCA Architectural and Engineering staff and all active projects ensuring that design projects are completed efficiently, within the required codes and standards, timely and within budget. 4. Formulate policies and procedures relating to architectural and engineering design standards of school construction projects and for project scoping strategies. 5. Serves as an Executive Team Member, participates in decisions on strategic, sensitive, and long-range planning proposals by effectively utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. 6. Performs related tasks. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; and 2. NYS Professional Engineer or NYS Registered Architect; and 3. Fifteen years of full time experience in architecture or engineering; seven years must have been in a managerial or executive capacity or a satisfactory combination of education and experience, however, qualifications #1 and 2 must be met.
