Teachers Credit Union South Bend, IN Full Time

We are searching for an experienced Accountant III. 
South Bend, Indiana 46601

Essential Function

Prepares and reviews journal entries, internal and external accounting financial statements, schedules and reports of moderate complexity in one or more specialized areas. Uses computer systems to develop applications and complete work in an efficient and accurate manner. Ability to work with limited supervision to meet specified departmental and organizational deadlines. Prepares reconciliations and verifies statistical and accounting reports prepared by internal departments.

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

1. Reconciles and reviews complex general ledger accounts to ensure the reconciliations properly represent the outstanding items and age. Follows up in a timely manner with business units on outstanding items.

2. Prepares complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.

3. Analyzes current cost, revenue, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses for budgeting.

4. Prepares TCU and CUSO financial reports ensuring accuracy and timely distribution.

5. Responsible for real estate and personal property tax reporting as well as other tax reporting assigned by Management.

6. Evaluates procedures and creates more effective methods for the Accounting Department or other interrelated departments while efficiently utilizing technology.

7. Supervise and guide lower-level accountants as needed.

8. Researches and responds to inquires of Federal and State examiners, as well as internal and external auditors.

9. Assumes additional responsibilities and projects as delegated by Management.

• Computer literacy (Windows environment) and data entry skills are vital in this position.

• Ability to work independent and collaborative as needed.

Accountability

• Responsible for goals and objectives as set forth in the Performance Management System.

• Accountable for the accuracy of the work produced and for meeting established deadlines.

• Accountable for understanding and applying TCU policies and procedures relating to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA/AML, CIP and OFAC).

• Quality member service and communication with the various levels of employees.

• Accountable for the timeliness and integrity of the financial statements.


Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Business or equivalent practical work experience in the accounting field.

• Knowledge of financial services, electronic accounting systems and a practical accounting knowledge generally acquired by 6 or more years of accounting experience.

• Ability to lead department members.
