Health Benefits Associate (Health & Welfare Plan Consulting)
The Opportunity:
We seek a Health Benefits Associate to join Segal’s Health consulting practice. The individual will affiliate with our Boston Office and work either a hybrid (partly in-office, partly from home) or fully remote (from home) work schedule, with a preference for the former.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ideal candidate with interest in pursuing a technical/analytical oriented consulting career path in the employee health & welfare benefits plan field. The individual will collaborate with colleagues and senior consultants on project teams formed to address and deliver creative and/or innovative solutions to external client needs. If you possess a high level of proficiency to perform advanced technical and analytical work and have ability to contribute to the design of solutions, effectively engage external clients, vendors and providers and, grow professionally…then we are interested in speaking to you.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): analyzing complex technical data with regard to health benefit plans; doing budget projections; preparing bid specifications and analyzing proposals; performing insurance carrier renewal analyses and negotiations; preparing claims cost and funding analysis; performing benefit plan pricing; preparing claims curves for retiree health valuations…and more.
Key Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree, with a quantitative focus (e.g., Math, Science, Actuarial Science, etc.).
- 0-3 years of experience related to employee benefits analyses, underwriting and/or actuarial work.
- Actuarial exam progress with a desire to achieve credentialed status is preferred.
- Effective interpersonal and communication (writing/oral) skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, etc.).

The current salary range for this position is $50,000 to $70,000 (flexibility depending on the candidate’s experience) plus an annual performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
