Job Summary:

The Director of Medical Staff Office Services is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the Medical Staff Office functions across Care New England.

- Reporting to the Chief Medical Officers for Kent Hospital and Women & Infants, the Director is responsible for maintaining medical staff compliance with the Joint Commission Accreditation standards, Federal & State regulations and the Medical Staff Associations Bylaws / Rules and Regulations.

- The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the credentialing and privileging activities for all operating unit locations.

Responsibilities:

  • In the role of MSO director, contributes to the safety and quality care of patients through the accurate and timely credentialing and privileging process of the medical staffs.
  • The Director is a facilitator, organizational liaison, and mentor while having responsibility for resolving administrative and operational issues.
  • Serves as the system leader and resource for matters involving medical staff and allied health licensure, supervision, by-laws and other relevant legal and regulatory issues.
  • The Director of Medical Staff Services provides leadership, management and operational oversight of Medical Staff organizational support services, including working collaboratively with the MSO Manager in providing direct supervision to the employees within the department.
  • Works collaboratively with Medical Staff Leadership to plan, organize, prioritize, and coordinate Medical Staff activities.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements of regulatory and accreditation bodies that are relevant to the Medical Staff Office activities.
  • Serves as the liaison between the Medical Staff Office and other departments across the system.
  • Accountable for the operations of the department to include all aspects of personnel management, assigning workload and monitoring productivity of the team members.
  • Will oversee and maintain efficient process for provider credentialing applications and reappointments in accordance with standards, policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for the credentialing software system, ensuring accuracy of the data, running queries and reports as requested, ensuring all users are appropriately trained as applicable to their role.
  • Will participate in projects or respond to data needs related to the medical staff and must be able to pull data from different sources for report preparation or special projects.
  • Will create and maintain complete policies, procedures and processes associated with the functioning of the department and related controls to promote timely communication and adequate information flow.
  • Ensures communication in a timely and professional manner with both internal and external customers.
  • Anticipates and communicates with appropriate hospital staff and/or medical staff to gain optimal efficiency and/or effectiveness.
  • Provides leadership to ensure good working relationships both within the department and with other departments.
  • Works collaboratively to achieve system goals.
  • Serves as the primary resource within the department and to administrative staff of other departments relative to medical staff services.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s (Master’s Preferred)

Experience: Minimum of 5 to 7 Years

Specifications:

Must possess demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills; thorough knowledge of accreditation standards as well as other state and federal regulatory requirements; ability to work well with individuals at all levels within the institution; and strong computer skills.

Must have excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and ECHO medical staff database technology experience. Maintain Board Certification with National Association of Medical Staff Services every three years.
