Position Description
The AVP, IT Infrastructure Engineering is responsible for the effective and efficient design and engineering of the IT infrastructure that is used to support all business processes across the enterprise.  This individual will have a diversified background of technical infrastructure experience, demonstrated project management acumen, excellent vendor management skills, plus a superior, service-oriented approach to infrastructure engineering.  As a member of the IT Infrastructure leadership team, the AVP, IT Infrastructure Engineering contributes to the development and execution of Allergan’s strategy, and ensures its alignment with the enterprise's IT and business strategy and the delivery of capabilities that are required to achieve business success.  This position will play a critical role in the design, development, implementation and technical support of our Allergan IT - Cloud First Strategy. 
Main Areas of Responsibilities
  • Building, inspiring and managing a passionate, market leading technology team that aligns with and executes on the company’s vision
  • Leading strategic technology planning based on market and customer demand
  • Being a face to our customers as it relates to AGN infrastructure and technology delivery, fostering customer confidence
  • Managing the development, engineering, technical operations and related teams using an agile approach
  • Owning and executing on the strategic technology vision and roadmap for Allergan working directly with customers as well as the product and sales teams
  • Having a passion for applying technical and process automation in data oriented organizations
  • Working with the operations and customer success teams to analyze customer requests and ensure requirements are met
  • Engineering appropriate quality, testing and release protocols
  • Ensuring all aspects of our technology are compliant with required standards and ensure appropriate controls, policies, procedures are in place
  • Conducting research to remain current and knowledgeable about compliance, industry trends, emerging technologies and planning for required change to the technology stack
  • Being both hands on and a leader, developing team and directly supporting delivery as needed
  • Defines the vision, strategy, and technical architecture of target-state infrastructure patterns and manages the teams needed to achieve target state.
  • Provides strategic technology leadership in support of business objectives.   The engineering function includes planning, organizing, budgeting & controlling the overall Technology Lifecycle Management processes.
  • First-hand experience designing and implementing hybrid cloud architecture to support application modernization and transformation initiatives.
  • End-to-end integration of infrastructure capabilities required for developing new operational model—from defining requisite technical capability model and mapping that to skills, infrastructure software stacks, security and control processes.
  • Responsible for pivoting the design and delivery of infrastructure services from legacy long-running waterfall investments to one of rapid iteration, continuous integration and deployment of infrastructure software services.
  • Adopting agile development paradigm to the infrastructure realm, partnering with infrastructure operations to develop the staffing model to lead this transformation, crosscutting traditional technology domain silos.
  • Fosters a business-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques.
  • Leads the development of the full infrastructure strategy and roadmap, and ensures its integration with the broader IT and enterprise strategic plans.
  • Works with the enterprise architecture team to ensure that the IT infrastructure enables necessary applications and business processes.
  • Builds and maintains business and application development relationships to gain insight of business needs; ensures cost-effective infrastructure solutions are in place to meet those needs, and can respond with agility to changing business priorities.
  • Leverages influencing and negotiation skills across IT and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in achievement of business goals.
  • Participates in the assessment of external and internal infrastructure capabilities required to achieve desired business goals.
  • Maintains currency on new technologies and platforms, and provides direction on what emerging infrastructure technologies should be introduced, integrated and assimilated.
  • Manages the portfolio of infrastructure assets and services from purchase or adoption through retirement.
  • Leads IT infrastructure engineering's involvement in the IT organization's innovation and transformation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of business opportunities.
  • Provides oversight for the design and development of IT infrastructure platforms that fulfill the needs of the business.
  • Supports Enterprise Services sourcing strategy, and provides oversight for infrastructure vendor and partner relationship management.
  • Continually looks for leading-edge and innovative solutions to the recruitment, development and retention of the infrastructure engineering workforce.
  • Works with Talent Acquisition leadership team to forecast future skills needs to acquire and a workforce with the appropriate mix of business knowledge, technical skills and competencies.  
  • Drives the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure Enterprise Services delivers value to the enterprise.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the IT infrastructure engineering team and staff.
The following listed requirements need to be met at a minimum level to be considered for the job:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or work experience in an applicable industry / related field with a minimum of 10 plus years of IT Infrastructure leadership experience.
  • 10 plus years of demonstrated experience leading an IT Infrastructure Engineering team along with 5 plus years of management and organizational and budgeting experience. 
  • Preferably experience in effectively managing cross-functional teams influencing key stakeholders across the organization and within complex contexts
  • Proven ability of inspiring, motivating, and developing an engineering team that can deliver quality product on time and on budget.
  • Deep understanding of current and emerging infrastructure technologies and how other IT enterprises are employing them
  • Success in leveraging both traditional practices, such as IT service management, as well as emerging methods, such as DevOps, that are optimized for agility
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time, and that employees are highly engaged and satisfied
  • Ability to adapt and leverage experience in a dynamic, high growth environment.
  • Strong business acumen and agility within large, matrixed organizations.
  • Ability to think strategically while maintaining focus results and execution excellence.
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing through presentations and individual discussions with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong organizational, management, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems and identify best practices.
  • Future oriented, anticipates outcomes, decisive and results oriented.
  • Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to, build, coach and mentor a team of highly technical individuals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Technology Engineering
