The Clinical Educator
is responsible for coordinating, managing, directing and planning all aspects of staff education in accordance with the established standards of care, mental health and medical surgical practice, nursing practice and facility policy, goals, and objectives. This position contributes to the hospital’s philosophy, objectives, educational and quality improvement efforts, while providing guidance to all hospital staff and the interdisciplinary team. This position is a position of flexibility and must be able to work varied hours throughout the facility to meet educational and health needs of all staff. This position works closely with and under the supervision of the Director of Nursing Services.
Key Responsibilities include:
Works with Performance Improvement, Human Resource, Department Heads and administration to assess the education needs of the staff.
Ensures that employees show competence as per Joint Commission/CMS standards to keep the facility ready for any surveys.
Participates in hospital committees and activities which promote growth and development of hospital staff.
Distributes schedule of educational offerings and reserves rooms as required.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of areas and subjects taught during in-services and orientation.
Develops educational material for new hire orientation.
Follows up with new hires on the units for evaluation of the education process.
Frequently re-evaluates materials for relevancy and changes to current policy and procedures.
Coordinate monthly orientation/reorientation schedule with Human Resource, Performance Improvement, and Department Heads to ensure orientation runs smoothly.
Ensures that the preceptor/mentor or his/her designee complete departmental orientations forms for all new employees
Coordinates yearly nursing re-education to include competencies, equipment check offs, specific policy and procedures review and other decided on yearly education requirements.
Ensures all employees complete required annual re-orientation, with supporting documentation in the employee personnel files.
Coordinates didactic orientation for Clinical Systems.
Performs needs analysis to determine training needs. Creates and implements this training.
Creates and updates staff education and competency program annually.
Rounds on the units to endure staff are competent and are adhering to hospital policies.
Provides continuous, on-going training to staff on an as needed basis.

Minimum: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in Mississippi. Must demonstrate good mental health, be able to handle multiple pressures, possess critical thinking skills, observe and attend to details, be able to change and make changes, ask for help when needed, and accept full responsibility for the area of management.
Preferred: A Bachelor of Science in Nursing with one year experience in psychiatric setting. Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in Mississippi
