Senior Heritage Planner
The Senior Heritage Planner, under the direction of the Manager of Planning, will primarily be responsible for the interpretation of Provincial, Regional and Municipal Policy Plans, guidelines, zoning by-laws, and other planning documents where those by-laws, policies and documents apply to cultural heritage. This position is also responsible for the interpretation, preparation and formulation of planning policies, by-law provisions and reports in accordance with sound planning practices and policies. The Senior Heritage Planner will provide guidance, mentorship, and oversight to other planners in the division.
The successful candidate will have:
- University Degree in Planning or equivalent with a specialty in cultural heritage.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive planning experience. Experience working in a municipal environment is preferred.
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals is required.
- Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and a Registered Professional Planner (MCIP, RPP).
- Possess strong knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act (OHA).
- Experience working with a Municipal Heritage Committee (MHC) is considered an asset.
- Experience with archaeology is considered an asset.
- Experience in leadership preferred.
- Technical knowledge of the Ontario Land Tribunal and court rules of procedure.
- Demonstrate flexibility and strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, facilitate meetings and make presentations.
- Demonstrate proven organizational, time management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
- Show a strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.
