Registered Nurse (RN) key responsibilities include but not limited to: To provide nursing care for psychiatric patients using the nursing process. To assess mental health needs, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and evaluate nursing care. To administer and/or monitor the effects and side effects of medications and treatments ordered by a physician. To ensure safety and provide milieu management and crisis intervention strategies. Patients served include children, adolescents, and adults (18+) and geriatric (55+).

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning, intervention and evaluation of psychiatric patients. Ability to accurately administer medication and treatments and monitor for effectiveness and side effects. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to delegate responsibility to other staff and monitor their performance. Ability to safely implement special treatment procedures. Skill in developing therapeutic relationship with adults and their families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Skill in teaching patients and families about the patient’s health needs. Works autonomously, sets priorities and makes decisions of a complex nature. Maintains confidentiality and HIPAA standards. Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, currently licensed to practice by the Texas State Board of Nursing.
- Preferred: BSN and ANA Certification.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION:
- Current Texas State Registered Nurse License. Current CPR.
- Aggressive Behavior Management training – within 90 days of hire date. Is deemed a Qualified Mental Health Provider (QMHP)
- Required: Inpatient psychiatric nursing experience.
- Preferred: One year medical/surgical experience.
