You might be the Controller Robert Half Finance is looking for, if you want to take responsibility for the accounting and clerical department of a successful company. The Controller position is a full-time opportunity in the Hilo, Hawaii region. Responsibilities include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. Candidates who know how to effectively manage self and others within strict time constraints when providing client services will do well in this role along with creative types who can lead while also being a team player, generate innovative ideas, and challenge the status quo. Your responsibilities - Produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and manage daily cash - Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required - Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective - Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques - Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies - Review deliverables of self and team to align with client expectations - Manage finance department operations, including accounts payable, billings collections, and payroll - Able to perform additional tasks beyond formal job duties - Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis - Manage the production of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts - Each month, present executive committee and partners with financial reports

Job Requirements

- Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines - Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement - Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued - 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred - Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations - Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field - Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis - Excellent communication and organizational skills - Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued - Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred - Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus - Year end closings experience highly desired - Deep understanding of financial statement preparation - Well-founded grasp of cash flow management - Proven knowledge of supervising - Knowledge of financial reporting - SOX experience desired - Foundational knowledge in month end closings
