PRINCIPAL TECHNICIAN - AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL ASSEMBLY - ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN

Southwest Research Institute Ann Arbor, MI Full-Time


Who We Are:

This role will support the MI, Ann Arbor powertrain lab. This role will primarily be responsible for general hardware fabrication, dyno operation, cell and instrumentation wiring, equipment maintenance, and lab 5S. By joining our team, you will received an additional $500.00 in your first paycheck (minus applicable taxes)!



Objectives of this Role:

  • Provide electrical assembly and troubleshooting support for test equipment and prototypes.
  • Provide dyno operation support.
  • Provide test and prototype mechanical fabrication support.
  • Provide equipment maintenance support.
  • Provide test and prototype mechanical troubleshooting and repair support.


Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:

  • Perform test cell maintenance and repairs as identified; grease rotating bearings, calibration of instrumentation, cell safety inspections, change oil in compressors.
  • Perform general mechanical fabrication tasks such as general machining; mill, lathe, grinding, and welding support, sheet metal forming, prototype builds, and test cell fixturing.
  • Perform general electrical trouble shooting, repair and wiring tasks; installation of instrumentation in test cells, PCB troubleshooting, modification of vehicle wiring.
  • Operation of test cells create test plans in iTest, run preconfigured tests in iTest, change oil in test articles, install new test articles, and calibrate instrumentation.
  • Test article repair, build, and fabrication; tear down of engines, electrified drive units, and conduct repairs as needed, reassembly of test articles after repair.


Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Associates related to Electrical Technician, Technology, Automotive, or related is preferred
  • Shift work required
  • 10 years: Basic mechanical and electrical fabrication, Mechanical and electrical trouble shooting, and basic mechanical and electrical installation (welding, machining, wiring, sheet metal forming, basic fixture design)
  • Some experience may be considered in lieu of advanced education directly related to the position
  • Experience with the setup and operation of product testing equipment
  • Experience operating dynamometers or ability to be trained
  • Must have experience or be able to create detailed notes/logs for product testing an performance from test
  • A valid/clear driver's license is required



Special Requirements:

Work assignment is in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Must be a U.S. person (i.e., U.S. citizen, non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to ITAR work in section.
