About This Job

As an Institutional Business Development Officer for Commerce Trust Company, you will work closely with the entire institutional relationship team to establish sales strategies to acquire new business clients. You will leverage relationships with our commercial bank team as well as access opportunities from your own professional network using a systematic sales approach that is repeatable and collaborative. You will utilize a consultative sales approach to introduce Commerce Trust investment strategies to engage high-level executives and organizational boards to populate and expand various investment portfolios, including endowments and pensions. 


Essential Functions 

  •  Develop new investment management and advisory business for The Commerce Trust Company by partnering with appropriate business line leaders and staff at Commerce Bank and through outside contacts and sources
  • Market proprietary fixed income strategies and investment advisory services to reach annual new business fee goals
  • Develop referral opportunities through bank personnel and through an outside network of consultants, other financial advisors, and through candidate’s own network
  • Follow up on leads generated through various marketing programs
  • Initiate ideas for marketing efforts that result in the identification of prospects for investment management services
  • Serve as the relationship manager for significant revenue producing clients
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue with client senior managers and board
  • Ensure that services provided by The Commerce Trust Company are delivered in a consistent and timely manner by client service team
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm

Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required 

  • Strong Relationship management skills
  • Ability to speak confidently before large groups
  • Ability to manage complex relationship sales cycles
  • Familiarity with client management software
  • Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities 
  • Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values 
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook 
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements 

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required 
  • Advanced degree and/or certification (MBA or CFA) is preferred
  • 5+ years sales experience required, financial sales experience preferred  
  • Investment management or investment consulting sales experience required
