Who we're looking for

Connected Technologies is a newly formed group within Toyota, focused on delivering industry-leading user experiences and new technologies for our Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

We're looking for a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer, Systems Engineering who is experienced developing highly performant back-end cloud applications that will seamlessly support millions of users on our remote services platform!

You will be responsible for providing technical leadership and initiative to build high-quality solutions and be tasked with maintaining & improving existing codebases as well as responsible for peer review code changes. This role will also be tasked with overseeing evaluation progress, daily-activity statuses, and key project activities on day-to-day basis. Lastly, you'll be asked to support documentation, engagement in quality testing/validation for changes and improving features before releasing them to our customers.

What you'll be doing:

* Define and architect solutions for the most complex issues that the team faces.
* Design, implement, and maintain applications/APIs.
* Write well defined and tested code for better maintainability and performance.
* DevOps and IAC leadership in best practices & enhancements.
* Design re-usable frameworks/components to help the needs of feature teams spanning across the globe.
* Provide technical leadership and vision in design, implementation, testing and rolling out existing and new services.
* Work with a cross-functional engineering teams, Front-end, QA, Platform Engineering to meet all project deliverables and milestone dates.
* Gather requirements, design, document and collaborate with other engineering teams to manage all the dependencies.
* Troubleshoot issues and debug codebases.
* Adapt new technologies, tools, processes from the organization as needed.
* Communicate well with team members and suppliers and work collaboratively.
* Mentor senior-level and mid-level developers. Be the example of what other engineers aspire to be and aspire to be great!

What you bring:

* Proven software engineering experience. Bachelors/Masters in CS, Computer or Software Engineering, Information Technology preferred.
* Demonstrated experience in developing web services and applications in Java, Kotlin, Golang or similar languages.
* Strong expertise in system fundamentals including multi-threading, concurrency, IO subsystems, and scheduling.
* Intense curiosity, willingness to question, and passion for solving hard technical problems to make systems better.
* Proficient in clean architecture, API design, debugging, profiling and performance optimization.
* Excellent problem-solving skills with knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and complexity analysis.

Add bonus if you have:

* You'll be a technical leader in your immediate team, working with other engineers and your product and design counterparts to take projects from idea to completion with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
* You'll be responsible for understanding product requirements & designs, and the customer problems they're aiming to solve; distilling them into manageable subparts that can be divided across other engineers on the project.
* Build the next-generation vehicle management system for Vehicle owners.
* Collaborate effectively and navigate through organizational complexity to solve problems and drive cross-functional execution.
* Experience collaborating with design, analytics, and product teams to improve user experiences.
* Ability to work in fast paced environment with quick decision-making skills.
