Financial Counselor Float  

Assists patients in resolving the financial responsibility of their hospital charges through suitable payment arrangements and/or welfare applications, ensuring full and timely payment of their account.  Completes verification of insurance benefits into the hospital computer system.  

Must be able to work all shifts: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm and work at all 3 hospitals as needed: St. Catherine Hospital, Community Hospital, St. Mary Medical Center to cover Financial Counselor, Verifiers, Cashiers and Mailroom. 

To Qualify you must have:  

  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years experience in a hospital/medical business office setting.
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits and previous financial counseling/self-pay collection experience required.
  • Must have strong communication skills and be able to handle stressful, uncomfortable situations.
  • Must demonstrate an ability in communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to speak and communicate in Spanish is preferred.
  • Indiana Certified Navigator preferred or completes Navigator training, Navigator testing and becomes a Indiana Certified Navigator and maintains license. 
  • Must be able to work all shifts and locations as indicated in posting.

Other community projects include the development of The Center for Visual and Performing Arts; creation of a not-for-profit foundation for cancer research, operation of the Cancer Resource Centre offering free support services to cancer patients and their families; donation of land and more than $3.5 million to create the Community Veterans Memorial; and Hartsfield Village, a senior living continuing care retirement community. The Foundation also owns a for-profit company, Community Resources, Inc., which provides catering services for The Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster and is developing Community Estates, a residential development in south Munster.

Throughout its history, CFNI has supported a number of charitable ventures in Northwest Indiana, including participation in a number of capital campaigns for other local not-for-profit groups; support and scholarships to area colleges and universities; funding for roads and public infrastructure; and donation of land and office space for the not-for-profit Hospice of the Calumet Area.
