About the Role:

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer who will lead initiatives, recommend, design, and be accountable for the appropriate software solutions aligned with a long-term strategy, priorities, dependencies, and budget. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience collaborating with and leading cross-functional engineering teams and communicating with senior engineers and leadership.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Principal Engineer, you will divide your time between architectural and software development work in ComET (Communication Engineering and Tools). Architectural work will include gathering requirements from various stakeholders and collaborating with other software engineers across the organization to provide architectural guidance and recommendations to several teams in ComET. In addition, you will navigate complex requirements to negotiate and effectively articulate the rationale and vision behind technical decisions that support business needs.

Software development work will include the following:

• Contributing as a technical lead to several projects
• Writing code, performing code reviews
• Mentoring developers
• Performing design and code reviews
• Assuring adherence to best practices and standards
• Rapid prototyping and demos

The expectation for hands-on development is 25-50% of the time. Java and Python are the main programming languages necessary for success, but you should be open to learning other languages.

You will be responsible for:

• End-to-end solutions and final product delivery and effective support plan
• Reviewing and challenging other senior engineers' proposals
• Architecting highly scalable, available, secure, and elastic solutions that employ industry best practices and cutting-edge technologies
• Serving as a domain expert, representing ComET across a larger organization and vendors, and mentoring and coaching junior talent
• Awareness of the new technology trends and vulnerabilities
• Recommending and driving the solutions through delivery and support
• Overseeing the creation of all technical documentation, such as software design, evaluation plans, test plans, technical manuals, proposals, and LRP
• Evaluating performance metrics and KPIs
• Leading a cross-functional panel of engineering experts
• Serving as an SME advisor to executive leadership

Skills & Experience We're Looking For:

• 12+ years of experience designing and building complex solutions in Java, Node.js, Go, Python, or similar ecosystems
• Hands-on design, development, and delivery of microservices and REST API-based services
• Implementing services using the Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Sprint Cloud
• Deploying applications with appropriate security, observability, and alerting designed-in
• CI/CD and automated deployment experience
• Using and integrating with AWS products
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills catering to various audience types
• Strong understanding of design patterns and industry best practices
• In-depth knowledge of Enterprise architecture principles
• 3-5 years of technical leadership experience
