CGI Federal is looking for a talented mid-senior level Systems Database Administrator for the installation, configuration, capacity planning, performance monitoring and maintenance of PostgreSQL databases on AWS cloud platforms. You will be supporting one of our exciting Health IT projects, and there is a great opportunity to learn and for growth!
The DBA will troubleshoot database issues and take proactive steps to prevent them. Other duties include monitoring production environment, tuning databases and SQL queries to optimize performance, performing installs, upgrades, participating in production problem calls and resolving trouble tickets.
Your future duties and responsibilities
•Experienced with PostgreSQL & PostgreSQL Architecture in AWS environment.
•Database installation, configuration and Schema handling.
•Creating and Managing PostgreSQL Databases in Production and Pre-Production environments.
•Responsible for implementing, managing, and tuning high-availability 24x7 PostgreSQL databases.
•Establish policies and procedures pertaining to data management, security, maintenance and utilization.
•Responsible for capacity planning and recommending paths to account for application growth that are in line with industry best practices.
•Familiar with Postgres data replication tools.
•Good experience in importing/exporting databases and replication activities.
•Tune database queries
•Monitor application related jobs and data replication activities
•A good knowledge of database security management
•Experience in code migration, database change management and data management through the various stages of the development life cycle, DevOps model.
•A sound knowledge of both database and system performance tuning
•Should have strong communication skills and interact with management, development teams, vendors and systems -administrators
•Provide a strategic database direction for the project
•Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
•A good understanding of the business
•Background and good knowledge of AWS environment.
•Experience supporting Java based Web applications is preferable
•Monitors and tunes databases for optimum efficiency.
•Help define and implement database standards.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role
•Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science/Technology or Engineering, or equivalent relevant work experience
•Excellent communication skills
•Familiarity with AWS environment and shell scripting.
•Must have the ability and flexibility to support and manage our dynamic 24 x 7 Production Environment as well testing environments.
•An enthusiastic, highly organized self- starter and a team player that works well as a member of a diverse team.
