THE OPPORTUNITY:
Washington State University (WSU) has established a new research and education program to meet the burgeoning demand for computer scientists with expertise in cybersecurity. This initiative is supported by $2 million in Washington state funding. In this connection, the School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) at WSU at its Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA, invites applications for one full-time faculty position of Assistant Professor of Cybersecurity. This is a career-track position with a primary focus on undergraduate teaching. Research focuses on strategic cybersecurity fields, including but not limited to: systems/application security, privacy-preserving computing, applied cryptography, formal methods for security, security of machine learning systems, machine learning for security, hardware security, loT and cyber-physical systems security, differential privacy, and applied cryptography is desirable.
At WSU, career-track Assistant Professors are primarily engaged in teaching undergraduate courses, including laboratory classes and software-design courses; career-track Assistant Professors also engage in another area of faculty activity, such as research or service commensurate with the scope of their appointment.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, mentor undergraduate students, make contributions to professional and university service, and participate broadly in the evolution of the school's BS degree programs, the one in cybersecurity and the other in computer science, which is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Ideally, candidates will have a passion for teaching and enthusiasm for involving undergraduate students in research and project-based learning. Recent PhD graduates and doctoral students who will graduate by July 2025 who are devoted to teaching core undergraduate level computer science and cybersecurity courses are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates will also have an opportunity to collaborate with overseas colleagues at our partner universities and engineering professors in SEAS and at other WSU campuses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in cybersecurity and other relevant computer science courses fostering experiential learning
• Contribute to advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students
• Participate in service to the department, college and/or university through committee work, recruitment, and interaction with industry
• Advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism among its faculty, staff, students through service, teaching, and community outreach
• Collaborate closely with other appropriate faculty throughout the School, Voiland College, and WSU
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Earned doctorate in computer science or closely related field prior to the hire date
• Specialization in cybersecurity
• Demonstrated expertise in computer science teaching
• Ability to develop and teach undergraduate courses in computer science at all levels
• Commitment to teaching excellence
• Ability to communicate effectively with both students and colleagues in written and verbal forms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Expertise with real-world cybersecurity tools and systems
• Experience in developing cybersecurity related curricula
• Excellent communication abilities in written and verbal forms
• Minimum of one year of post-doctoral experience in computer science
• Ability to initiate novel teaching approaches, advancing the pedagogy of computer science and cybersecurity
