Description\:

Provides managerial and engineering expertise to direct reports within the Packaging Engineering Department.  Leads multi-divisional projects and maintain a network for reporting and gathering information with other Boehringer Ingelheim sites to ensure the smooth transition of equipment and facility projects impacting the Packaging Department. Responsible for the staffing, organizing, training, and coordination of activities for engineers and other technical staff positions within the Packaging Engineering department. Responsible for defining packaging systems, component design controls, standard operating procedures, material selections and qualifications.  Ensures compliance with all GxP impacted systems through the effective use of change control, component standard development, cost accounting inputs, Bill of material (BOM) development, manufacturing records, deviations, investigations, and other Quality System documents.  Supports QA through recommendations and guidance of packaging component testing and inspection methodologies. Works closely with Plant Services personnel in the development and execution of CapEx projects and improvements.

This position will work with Packaging Management to formulate goals, work strategies, priorities, and departmental support objectives.  This position will assure that production processes are appropriate and that production operators and management obtain necessary training and guidance to meet production objectives.  This position will assure that departmental control and improvement metrics are established. 

BIAH is the Center of Excellence for vaccine development and production. Over 60% of all BI AH products are produced at these US facilities, which produce materials for both domestic and global supply.

Duties & Responsibilities\:

  • Regulatory & Compliance Support\:

  • Maintain the Packaging/Label Control Center Department in cGMP, EU, USDA, EPA, and OSHA compliance. 

  • Assists Quality and Purchasing with supplier audit, qualification, corrective action, and surveillance activities. 

  • Demonstrated high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts in order to maintain Site's excellent reputation in the community.

  • Financial/Analytical Support\:

  • Assist with implementing and/or establishing assigned capital project expenses and budgets.

  • Responsible for establishment of relevant improvement metrics. 

  • Stakeholder Support\:

  • Coordinates with representatives from the Production Planning, Scheduling, Packaging and QA Departments to meet assigned packaging process requirements and ensure the necessary training and guidance to meet production objectives. 

  • Assure the timely development and submittal of primary and secondary packaging standards and documentation obtained from inputs submitted by various departments and outside subcontractors. 

  • Work with Packaging Management to formulate goals, work strategies, priorities, and departmental support objectives.

  • Leadership Support\:

  • Provides guidance and support to Manufacturing Engineering (ME) personnel by defining systems, SOPs, and expectations. 

  • Assists Packaging Management to formulate goals, work strategies, priorities, and departmental support objectives. 

  • Assures that production processes are appropriate and that production operators and management obtain necessary training and guidance to meet production objectives. 

  • Coordinates functional requirements between shifts, assures assigned training and individual development requirements are meet, reports back to Sr. Packaging Management.

  • Business Process Excellence Support\:

  • SME  in the areas of process design, component development, facility / line design and layout, equipment specification development, procurement, installation, training, and (de)commissioning. 

  • Establishes systems for industrial engineering studies and produces labor and equipment standards/metrics to include, but not limited to, efficiencies, utilization, down time, etc. 

  • Oversees the development and performance of engineering studies/experiements; develops and executes protocols; creates manufacturing records. 

  • The product portfolio of BIAH is unique with regard to complexity. 

  • Business complexity includes multiple sites across two states.

  • The combination of\: intense regulation, overall risk of operations and a dynamic process driven production environment results in a complex business/operational model with multiple competing factors needing to be balanced.

  • The position requires the individual to be able to handle multi tasks and provide the leadership to implement solutions to complex problems using the best available technology.

  • Complex assignments and projects and communicate plans and approaches in clear, concise and professional manner in verbal and written form.

Requirements\:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or related field and a minimum of seven (7) years relevant industry experience including defining manufacturing systems, component design controls, material selections, component standard development, manufacturing component testing and inspection methodologies.

  • Or, Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Engineering or related field and a minimum of five (5) years relevant industry experience including defining manufacturing systems, component design controls, material selections, component standard development, manufacturing component testing and inspection methodologies.

  • Experience must be inclusive of at least three (3) years leading people and projects in a biological manufacturing or similar regulated environment.

  • Must have solid understanding of applicable regulatory requirements, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.Effective interpersonal skills with a diverse group of individuals at all organizational levels. 

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and interpret data and formulate logical and sound conclusions and recommendations. 

  • Demonstrated ability to use technical knowledge to solve problems. 

  • Proficiency in relevant computer software and programs associated with the organization to detail and commitment to customer service.
