Make and fit necessary piping assemblies. Build such sub parts as rotating elements, assemble impellers and bearings to shafts as required. Check for binds, clearance, end play, mesh of gears, etc. Ensure all parts are free of chips and burrs.
Requires mounting of baseplate, pump, and motor so that all three are in perfect alignment. Use taper wedge to obtain parallelism of coupling faces, and dial indicators to check run out.
Layout and scribe locations for holes in baseplate required for mounting motors and pumps. Mount pump and motor to baseplate or occasionally to skid.
Replace seals, gaskets, packings, etc. at test as required.
Lubricate and perform minor maintenance functions on machines.
Use threading machine to thread pipes and make necessary piping installations.
Set up and make all-around performance and final hydrostatic tests on all sizes of pumps and pump components using manual as well as computerized analysis tools. Determine driver motor rating to be used as well as testing area from job specs and/or by consulting with Engineering Department as required.
Set up and align pump with motor, dynamometer, or turbine. Make piping and wiring connections with assistance of Maintenance Department. Perform hookups and unhooking of AC motors within the Test Department. As required, make recommendations as to set-ups for new pump types.
Adjust process and resulting readings to meet test parameter variables such as specific gravity of fluid, height and length of piping, etc. Make initial interpretation of data before referring questionable issues to supervisor.
Keep extensive and detailed records of capacity and other performance measures as required. Test to specifications and procedures as directed by Engineering and Supervisor. Consult with Supervisor for corrective action on rejects.
Perform routine gage calibration and resetting according to appropriate MIL specs.
Pass government security clearance to “confidential” level. Safeguard confidential data pertaining to pump performance and operating parameters.
Move pumps to next operation using skid, hand truck or perform routine rigging and use overhead crane to move and position pump to next operation within the stockroom, assembly, test, and shipping areas.
Detect and report defective materials and faulty operations to proper supervisor. Follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Maintain work area in clean and orderly manner.
