Job Description
Responsibilities: The Spa and Recreation Manager acts as a coach and works with the massage therapists, estheticians, spa concierge, spa reception, and recreation colleagues. The Manager works in a team manner with other leads, and Spa Management to ensure that the highest levels of services are performed in conjunction with a smooth spa and recreation operation. He or she must be highly knowledgeable about the local area and spa/well industry.
- Assist the Director of Spa and Recreation with the supervision, management and growth of the staff.
- Fiscally manage a Spa and Recreation facility with proven skills in Budgeting, Forecasting, Yield Management, Utilization, Menu Management, and Retail Management.
- Set both short term and long term goals.
- Conduct performance reviews, supervising and disciplining staff as necessary.
- Maintain and communicate a strong guest service philosophy.
- Reinforce quality standards through standard testing, daily feedback and any other necessary means.
- Evaluate the appearance of the Spa/Recreation facilities and staff and facilitate action plans when necessary.
- Schedule a large staff and complete payroll records in accordance with budgeted guidelines.
- Participate in regular staff meetings to keep employees informed of hotel policies and changes as well as ways to increase sales and service.
- Effectively work with other departments within the hotel.
- Utilize all computer systems relevant to the department.
- Effectively integrate the Spa and Recreation with the Hotel operations whenever possible and in accordance to the direction of Spa or Recreation trends.
- Market our Spa and Recreation facilities as world-renowned, generating positive P.R. and awards in publications.
- Conduct interviews with news and magazine media as well as appearing and speaking in television interviews.
- Utilize a high degree of Spa product knowledge to develop indigenous and specialized treatments and wellness programming that will distinguish our Spa from the competition.
- Order and maintain inventories for all operational and retail supplies.
- Train staff in effective Sales techniques to build treatment and retail revenues.
- Maintain compliance in all Health Code and Licensing requirements of the State of California and the City of San Diego, California.
- Resolve all serious guest interactions in a professional and capable manner.
- Be cross trained in all functions of the Spa where appropriate.
- Perform other tasks or projects as assigned by Resort Management and staff.
- Oversee our retail program and recommend additional products based on Spa trends.
- Assist the Spa and Recreation Director in the development of all technical fitness, health education and children programs.
- Assist the Spa and Recreation Director in giving guidelines, direction and monitoring for the development and effectiveness of the exercise classes and spa programming.
- Oversee fitness equipment maintenance.
- Monitor the quality and timeliness of all communication generated by the Recreation/Fitness Department, including in-house collateral, promotions, mailings and bulletin boards.
- Monitor operating supply funds for the Recreation/Fitness Department and generate necessary purchase requisitions.
- Monitor the housekeeping standards and mechanical effectiveness of all facilities, report deficiencies as they occur and follow-up.
- Establish treatment protocols for cutting edge spa treatments and massage therapies, conducting professional training and compliance in 5-star standards.
- Be certified in CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).
- Serve in the role of Spa and Recreation Director when necessary to ensure adequate manager coverage.
- Ensure compliance of licensed Therapist with Spa Procedure Manual.
- Develop Spa's Marketing Strategy and ensure a consistent image is being portrayed.
- Be proactive in developing publicity opportunities and effectively dealing with media.
- Maintain and update all necessary internal and external signage.
- Create ongoing in-house promotions and activities to stimulate sales, staff and customers.
- Guide business decisions by staying on top of Spa industry trends.
- Maintain a strong menu of services with both exceptional artistic and aesthetic value.
- Ensure the Spa is always staged for maximum buyer impact.
- Develop a Recruitment Kit for effective recruiting, screening, interviewing and hiring.
- Develop Value Packed Proposals and maintain internal staff retention programs.
- Implement ongoing skills training to ensure service standards are being upheld.
- Develop and monitor Job Descriptions and Staff Goals Planning.
- Create and maintain Staff Contracts, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Perform Staff Evaluation Reports with proposed action plans.
- Effectively administer and monitor Staff Scheduling procedures.
- Demonstrate an exceptional level of professionalism for the staff to emulate.
- Create a motivating environment of sincerity, warmth and fun for colleagues and guests.
- Implement Negative Staff Behavior and Dismissal guidelines with follow-through.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Training and credentials to include degree or appropriate equivalent in one of the following areas of study – Hotel/Hospitality Management, Spa management, or Exercise Physiology.
- 3-5 years Spa Management experience.
- Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.
- Great guest service skills.
- High school graduate minimum and prefer college graduate.
- Willing to learn specific services offered at the Spa, when training is provided by the Spa.
- Ability to teach specific services offered at the Spa and a variety of techniques.
- Personable and interested in health and wellness field.
- Good communication skills (both written and verbal) with guests and staff. Ensure that the guests feel comfortable during treatment.
- High energy, passion and drive.
- Aggressive, outgoing and self-motivating individual with a pleasant personality.
- Solid understanding of communication channels used on both the trade and consumer sides.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to write professional proposals and customer correspondence.
- Ability to deal well with stress and difficult situations where desired results and outcomes must be achieved.
- Ability to make decisions in a quick and competent manner.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of MS Office Suite Programs, SpaSoft knowledge preferred.
- Responsible for taking independent action, developing strategies, and making quick decisions in a proactive and competent manner. Decisions may often be guided by broad objectives and goals.
- Broad understanding of the hotel function and Sales function, as well as other hotel developments.
- Strong management, organizational and presentation skills required.
Additional Information
Salary Range: $70,096 - $80,000 USD Gross Annually
