Role Description



The IT Business Analyst is a vital part of a growing team. This person works closely with the development team and business partners to define and capture both technical and user requirements. These requirements ensure that the developers and testers on a project can clearly understand the desired outcomes and ensure that delivery is as expected. The IT Business Analyst role also entails project management responsibilities, working towards maximizing iterative value for stakeholders through the project lifecycle, and coordinating with the appropriate teams to move the project forward.



As someone who is familiar with system architecture and database structure, the IT Business Analyst will bridge the gap between business stakeholders and the dev team. This person speaks knowledgably about technical subjects in a way that makes sense for a wide variety of audiences, internally and externally.  They will work with business stakeholders to define product vision, gather feature requests, prioritize work in the product backlog, and work with the Development Team on backlog refinement. They will also be a key party to making sure that project timelines and milestones are on track.



Responsibilities




  • Serve as a Product Owner for Agile development team(s), prioritizing current and upcoming project work with input from internal customers

  • Coordinate user acceptance testing with business stakeholders, as well as communicate changes with other business users who may be impacted

  • Work with product managers and project stakeholders to understand business requirements, receive feedback, and resolve issues

  • Translate business needs into user stories that can be understood by the software engineers and quality assurance testers

  • Apply an in-depth analysis to all projects as part of the design process, gathering the details of all business/functional requirements, guiding the business in fleshing out undefined requirements, and translating that to system/technical requirements

  • Use critical thinking to determine the best fit for new functionality within the existing system and understand impacts and touch points

  • Review product documentation for accuracy

  • Answer questions from the software engineering team and understand the implementation of user stories; ensure that user stories meet the business objectives of the stakeholders

  • Reviewing work done by the development team to ensure that it was implemented correctly

  • Work with stakeholders to build User Acceptance Test (UAT) plans

  • Process stakeholder feedback and manage changes to requirements or scope

  • Field questions from internal software implementation, training, and support teams

  • Assist in the user interface design of software products

  • Engage in effective and professional communication, by requesting and providing information in a clear manner when communicating with business users, our development team, and other members of the IT department



Professional Qualifications                                                                




  •  5 years' experience working in the software development lifecycle, including at least one year as a Business Analyst 

  •  Experience with full software development lifecycle 

  •  Excellent problem solving and solution design skills 

  •  Experience analyzing and integrating complex systems and technologies 

  •  Experience gathering, interpreting, and documenting business and functional requirements 

  • Basic understanding of SQL, including the concepts of relational data, and ability to query tables

Preferred




  • Completed degrees and/or certifications in related fields

  •  Experience with Agile/Kanban/Scrum methodologies and the ability to increase the understanding of these methodologies for stakeholders 

  •  Hands-on development experience

  •  Experience with system testing and/or test planning 

  •  Excellent technical design skills 

  •  Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) 

  •  Experience in environments subject to HIPAA and/or PCI regulations 

  • Experience in software-as-a-service, actuarial science and/or insurance underwriting industry
