Under the general direction of the RadiologyDirector the ultrasonographer practices technology founded upon theoreticalknowledge and concepts using equipment and accessories and employs proceduresand techniques appropriately. Thetechnologist acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtainpertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatmentof the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside thescope of practice for the profession.
Involves general guidance and direction by RadiologyDirector. The ultrasonographer isexpected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with establisheddepartmental and hospital policies and procedures within Scope of Practice.
Requires corrected hearing and vision to withinfunctional ranges. Requires frequentbending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients andsufficient manual dexterity to operate imaging equipment. Must be able to stand/sit for long periods ata time. Good mental and physical healthto work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.
This position requires competence in assessment,treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstratethe knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical,psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to theage of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to providesuch care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
Licensure / Certification / Registration: Must be registered in one of the following: ARRT Sonography (S); Vascular Sonography (VS); ARRT (R) with a KY License; Reg. Diag. Med. Sonography (RDMS); Reg. Diag. Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); Reg. Vas. Tech (RVT); Cardiovascular Credentialing International: Reg. Card. Sonographer (RCS); Reg. Vasc. Specialist (RVS); Reg. Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS)
Must possess BCLS
Education: Completion of an education program in Radiologic Technology and /or Ultrasonograpy. 2 year certificate, associate degree, and/or baccalaureate degree after program completion.
Experience: Successful completion of an orientation program. Previous experience required.
Special Qualifications: Good communication skills; computer skills helpful; ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care.
