The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems and to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a "hands-on" position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

You will work in partnership with cross-functional teams, application owners and developers to secure, tune, upgrade and maintain existing SQL Server databases. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server environment, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Installation, administration and configuration of SQL 2016 / 2014 and other supported lower version of Microsoft SQL Servers
  • Participate in on - call support on a rotation basis
  • Experience on different type of database backup, replication, recovery, restoration, solutions
  • Excellent knowledge in other RDBMS and cross platform technology concepts
  • Knowledge on Azure or cloud based solutions on SQL platform, supporting key, business initiatives
  • Experience on automation and PowerShell scripting to build infrastructure for automation
  • Experiences on BI, Data ware housing architecture and implementations
  • Design, implement and maintain all functions of database systems, including access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation and statistical methodology
  • Assists in development of systems and procedures affecting database management, design and maintenance
  • Support problem resolution; consult and advise in application design and tuning; plan, organize and execute product benchmarks for threshold and functionality
  • Participate in product evaluations, design review session, data requirement meetings and consulting with application development products

  • Review ongoing and proposed projects to identify opportunities for reuse and process improvement
  • Review technical documentation to verify compliance with client requirements and established architectural standards and guidelines
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement
  • Provide on call support for critical production systems on a rotation basis
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours as needed
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team member

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience
  • 3+ years' experience with database performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
  • 3+ years' experience with backup, restore and recovery models
  • 2+ years of experience with high availability and disaster recovery options for SQL Server
  • 2+ years' experience working with Windows Server and Active Directory
  • Available to provide on call support for critical production systems on a rotation basis.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Flexible, team player, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to plan and work independently in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities
  • SQL Server MCSA/MCSE certifications
  • Oracle and MySQL experience
  • Power shell experience
  • Professional experience in the health care industry
