Job Description

Machine Operator / Cloth Doffer

This is a 1st or 3rd shift position, hours are from Midnight -- 8:00AM, Monday through Friday with some occasional overtime, as needed OR 8:00AM to 4:00PM with overtime required when necessary.

$16.18 an hour

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Cloth Doffer removes full rolls of cloth from the loom, restart cloth onto a tube or roller. Transport cloth to proper storage area, or to cloth inspection department. The Cloth Doffer will also remove short cuts, when requested or at warp outs, and tie-backs. The Cloth Doffer will take up cut away selvage waste and occasionally be asked to empty trash, recycles and other housekeeping duties.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be safety conscious at all times, abiding by all plant and department rules, Job Safety and Health Analysis pertaining to the job.
  • Report all accidents, unsafe conditions, and safety hazards; no matter how small
  • Check the PLO for next loom scheduled to be doffed
  • Key in appropriate codes into CIM data unit.
  • Secure required equipment, proceed to loom and prepare cloth for doffing
  • Place doffing equipment at take-up and key appropriate codes into CIM data unit Record required info on end of roll and kraft paper
  • Reverse cloth take-up control switch to slacken cloth
  • Raise packing roll if one used and hook to safety hooks with assistance if needed
  • Pull pick line and cut at pick line 1" below
  • If required, cut sample swatch from roll of cloth
  • Pull and cut off waste on tie-backs, and end waste on new warps
  • Wrap roll of cloth with a piece of brown kraft paper
  • Place new cloth put-up in floor at take-up
  • Position jack under roll of cloth on take-up
  • Raise the roll of cloth until weight tension is off of the cloth shaft
  • Get assistance when working with oversize rolls of cloth and cloth shafts
  • Remove roll of cloth from the take-up stand with assistance if needed
  • Remove the cloth shaft from the roll of cloth with assistance if needed
  • Verify correct cloth put-up to be used from Construction Sheet
  • Insert shaft into cloth put-up and replace the put-up into take-up with assistance if needed
  • Replace cloth shaft clamps if used and secure cloth shaft in take-up stand
  • Prepare the cloth put-up with the required tapes
  • Properly align and secure cloth on the put-up to ensure proper start-up, and to reduce waste
  • Check for proper and straight alignment of cloth on put-up
  • Key in appropriate codes into CIM data unit. Pick up quality map and piece ticket at printer Record data unit and cut meter length, date, shift, and initials on front of Warp ticket (except last cut), Flag card - write doff
  • Record all required information on cloth doff piece ticket Place piece ticket in the end of the cloth put-up
  • Push roll of cloth to the proper storage area and store with assistance if needed


Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent

1-3 years' manufacturing experience, preferably in a textile environment

Must be able to read, understand, and follow written instructions, doff tickets and standard work instructions

Ability to lift light to heavy weights

Must be careful not to contaminate or damage fabric
